"Papa, I want him fired," Raimu announced, as powerfully as any six year old could.
Jin clapped a hand over his mouth, laughing awkwardly at Yamapi who'd just entered the room. "Precocious, this one."
Raising an eyebrow, Yamapi made his way to the two by the piano. He plucked Raimu out of Jin's hold before setting him back down, leaning forward to bump his forehead with Raimu's. "What did I tell you about saying things like that?" he said softly.
Raimu pouted, but grudgingly. "That I shouldn't."
"Good. Now go play in your room while I talk to your teacher." Raimu nodded, bumping his forehead lightly with Yamapi's before dashing out of the room, but not before blowing a raspberry at Jin when he reached the doorway.
Jin almost blew one back, but Yamapi's eyes met his and Jin froze. Yamapi smiled, removing his glasses and rubbing his forehead lightly. "I'm sorry about him. He can be kinda..." He paused, looking for the right word.
"Precocious?" Jin grinned cheekily.
Yamapi chuckled. "Downright brat. But that's a cuter way of putting it." He gave Jin a once over before grinning sideways, folding his glasses and setting it on his shirt's collar. "But he must like you."
Jin snorted unintentionally, before biting his bottom lip from doing things like that again. "What makes you think that, Yamashita-san?" The formality was killing him - like this situation wasn't awkward enough.
"Yamapi. And he actually stayed here for the entire lesson. If he didn't, he'd've come storming into my office an hour ago."
Jin blinked. "Ah. Well, that's good, sir."
Yamapi rolled his eyes. "It's Yamapi, Akanishi-kun."
Jin licked his lips awkwardly before extending a hand. "Then it's Jin." Yamapi took it, grinning. "Does that mean I'm hired?"
Yamapi laughed again. "Yes. It means you're hired." Yamapi's grip got a touch tighter. Jin found his heart did the same.

"As much as I'm sure Raimu loves you being here," Jin hissed sideways, his eyes never leaving Raimu's figure on the piano. "You're kinda distracting." He neglected to add in which of the two he was distracting really.
"I think he's doing fine with me in the room," Yamapi said, eyes glazing over at the sight of his son. Raimu really was doing okay on the piano - never missing a key as he played a song. Much slower than it was originally intended, but Jin thought it was just his way of learning.
Jin sighed, turning to look at Yamapi. "Look, it's just the way I teach."
Yamapi angled his eyes in Jin's direction. "And this is my house."
"Papa, how was I?" Raimu asked happily, body half-turned to look at both his teacher and his father.
Yamapi tore his eyes away from Jin, a smile on his face as he walked towards his son, a hand on his back as he leant over to look at the music sheets. "You're really good, Raimu! It's only been a month too."
"It's because-" Jin started, ready to interrupt their conversation.
"It's because I'm a genius," Raimu blurted out, an eye on Jin, a wicked smile on his face. Jin rolled his eyes. "Right, Jin-kun?"
Jin laughed sardonically before patting Raimu heavily on the head. "Yeah, Raimu, that's definitely it."
Yamapi laughed along with Raimu.
"That's why I think we should have you perform in our school's recital," Jin said, crouching down to meet Raimu eye-to-eye.
Raimu blinked. "Really?" he asked, awe in his voice.
Jin smiled. "Yeah, if your dad's okay with it." He turned to look at Yamapi. His smile fell.
"Dad?"
Yamapi looked surprisingly solemn, standing up - a hand on Jin's arm. "I have to talk to your teacher for a bit, Raimu. Practice a little more." Raimu blinked before nodding, turning back to the piano. "Let's go, teacher-san," Yamapi said firmly.
Jin's stomach plummeted.
--
"Why can't he perform?" Jin asked, as soon as they were in the "safety" of the hallway, the door shut behind him.
"It's too soon," Yamapi blurted out, wringing his hands together, looking surprisingly panicked.
Jin raised an eyebrow. "Too... soon?"
"He's only six, even if he doesn't act like it. A boy that young can't already perform for all those people."
"I was doing recitals when I was six," Jin pointed out. "He'll be fine."
"No," Yamapi said firmly. "No. I won't let him. You shouldn't have asked him before consulting me."
Jin frowned. "Look, I'm sorry, but-"
"No," Yamapi repeated with an air of finality. "Don't bring it up again." He walked away and the door creaked open, Raimu's head peeking out. He met Jin's eyes.
"Is papa okay?" Raimu asked - he never sounded so much as a child, Jin suddenly thought.
Jin gave him a smile, pulling Raimu towards him and lifting him up so he could stand. "Yeah, your dad's okay."
Raimu frowned.
