It wasn't as though it wasn't normal for them to have dinner together. After all, they were the best of friends, weren't they? But Rui was sure most best friends didn't harbor secret crushes (that weren't really secret but have since tried hard to supress) for their other best friend's fiancee.
Rui was sure if Tsukasa knew how much time him and Makino spent going out (and eating mainly) that he'd be beyond jealous, but at the same time, maybe Tsukasa would be okay with it because he trusted Rui.
But with Makino staring back at him, looking gorgeous in a stunning red gown, the candlesticks in the middle of the table pronounced the angles in her face just a little more. Her hair was tied up neatly, the small amount of make-up she wore made her glow. Rui wasn't sure he could really hide just how he felt.
He thought they probably looked picturesque together, the kind of image people'd paint just so they couldn't forget. Rui didn't want to forget himself. But when he lifted his glass to give a brief little toast, he felt himself calm his rapid heartbeat back down to normal and beam at Makino.
"Happy year anniversary with Tsukasa, Makino," he murmured. She smiled at him brightly.
"Thanks, Hanazawa Rui." She clinked her glass against his and set a small frown on her face. "Where is that idiot anyway?"
Tsukasa's voice boomed from behind Rui. "Right here." In an instance, Rui watched as Makino's eyes lit up - a look that Rui would never really see put in his direction. Suddenly, chairs all around them were being occupied as the rest of the F4 came filtering in.
It had been a good moment while it'd lasted, Rui thought.
