Five Times Jin Admits To Liking Massu
tinyangl, 999 words
Akanishi Jin/Masuda Takahisa. Jin's life is hard. Massu helps him deal more than he expects.
A/N: I blame this all on cynicalism (who will in turn blame it on me, but shhh, don't listen to her). Don't you just love the word count, dear? (Originally posted here and here.)

i. Jin's manager has been hounding Jin to diet and Jin absolutely hates it - hates the idea, hates the lack of food, hates the control they're forcing onto him. He sighs loudly, collapsing onto the couch in the NewS break room (safe because his manager never seems to learn that he'll be in there). And whines to everyone in hearing distance that he's hungry. (Ryo retorts that maybe he should stop taking advice from Kame on how to be a glutton - Jin retorts that if Kame was actually eating in that drama, he'd stop eating for a week.)

Everyone listens, but Massu's the only one that offers Jin something to eat - a honey stick because that's unfortunately all he has. Jin still looks up at Massu with teary eyes and takes it - trying to get every ounce of flavor he can get, relishing in the taste. Massu can only smile happily at having satisfied someone's wishes.

This heaven lasts for about five more seconds before Jin hears his name being screamed through the corridors; then he has to escape before his manager finds him, but not before thanking Massu again from the bottom of his heart. Massu tells his running back that it was no problem.

ii. Jin's drunk and nobody seems to be sober except Massu - mainly because he hates the taste of alcohol (and someone had to make sure all of KAT-TUN and NewS stayed a little within their boundaries - the ones that wanted to drink anyway). So Masssu gets stuck with the task of bringing Jin home - or that's what he thinks Yamapi was slurring over the table. He's sure he's not far off.

"Massuuuuu~" Jin whines as he tries to keep up with Massu's already slow pace, using the nickname like he's always called Massu by that name.

Massu nods as he pretends to listen to Jin's babble, trying to remember if he even knows where Jin lives. When he realizes that he doesn't, he ends up bringing Jin to his place - making a mental note to apologize to his parents the next morning.

"You're too kind!" Jin flails when Massu helps him onto the couch. "You didn't leave me like they did." Jin sniffles. "I like you just for that.

Massu nods awkwardly - unsure of what to do about this and just passes Jin the blanket. "Okay, Akanishi-kun. Just call when you need me." Jin quickly falls asleep and Massu sighs before slipping into his room.

The next morning, Jin calls for his help - by screaming himself awake and startling the whole house. Massu groggily wonders if this is Jin's way of showing his affection.

iii. Massu catches Jin practicing alone inside an empty room - long after everyone's left and Massu was sure they were the only ones in the building left. But Jin's there - practicing intensely and obviously having been there a while as the male's dripping in sweat. Massu slips inside, unknown to Jin and waits. Waits for him to finish - pause - take a break. Something. That only happens after another hour of waiting.

Jin blinks, confused when he realizes Massu's standing there, but Massu hands him a towel and a bottle of water, smiling in a sense that just seems to know. He doesn't say a word, doesn't make a sound - just smiles. Jin relaxes, taking both things with a "Thanks."

iv. Jin's in the NewS break room again, exhausted and frustrated that his manager's on his case again. Which he complains about to the entire room - this time though, the only people there are Ryo and Massu. And having half of the room against him is not very helpful to his mood.

"Oh, stop being a baby and actually do the work," Ryo snaps.

Jin thinks that Ryo just doesn't understand and dread settles in his stomach, on top of guilt and stress and every other emotion that he's feeling - should be feeling - doesn't want to be feeling.

"Akanishi-kun works really hard," Massu chimes, a little serious but at the same time has an air of lightness to his voice. "You shouldn't underestimate him."

Ryo snorts, not missing a beat. "And you're defending him?"

Massu tilts his head to the side, a little confused. "Why not? Shouldn't you defend someone who's being wronged?"

Jin blinks, as does Ryo, but Jin's smile takes over and he can't help but think Massu's strong for standing up to Ryo.

"Of course, you'd defend a relative - pigs stick together," Ryo retorts, a little mocking towards the end.

Massu only shrugs nonchalantly, exchanging a hidden smile with Jin who feels a lot better all of a sudden.

v. Jin throws his hat against the ground, obviously frustrated at himself - everyone - everything, before slumping into a chair. He'd just gotten out of a very hard performance and he'd messed up; he knows he did and he hates it. Especially when he'd rehearsed that move a million times privately for the past two weeks. The rest of the members are quiet and the tension is enough to cut with a knife. Nobody wants to look at him, talk to him, even acknowledge his presence, and Jin thinks he hates that more than anything else.

Then Jin's phone rings, and everyone pointedly ignores it - not wanting to know who's on the other line. Jin's worried himself, but when he picks it up to find a text from Massu, he's a little startled and really relieved.

"Ne," the message starts, "we all make mistakes~ It's just moving up and above them! You'll do fine next time, Akanishi-kun. Work hard, okay?"

Jin freezes as the words slowly sink in, but a smile grows on his face. As he starts packing his bag, Jin thinks that a good friend should also treat people when they cheer them up and makes a note to call Massu as soon as he's out. He re-reads the message again as he steps out the door just for good measure.
