There is a very VERY fine line between constructive crit and down right flaming in my opinion.

I've very rarely recieved wither though, and to be honest I'm a bit dissapointed by that... I either get a "meh... it's okay." or nothing at all.

But as for me giving it... only ever once and I'll never do it again either. If I can pick fault with something someone has written or drawn I keep my fool mouth shut.

I'm actually really shy IRL and sometimes it can spill out over the net. I don't like it but that's just the way it is.

I once gave someone I know IRL some constructive crit about a picture they drew. She's a bit younger than me but I thought if she was serious in persuing art as a career then I thought I could give her a few pointers.
Her stuff was good, and I told her so, but I thought there was room for improvement...

well, when her mother came knocking at my door about 20 minutes later and demanding I apologise to her daughter because I'd upset her I wondered why the hell I'd even bothered trying...

so, for me at least, I tend to keep my opinions on stuff like this to myself. It's less troublesome that way.

aw saph that's horrible. You were just trying to be helpful.

Not everyone knows how to handle some criticism so I totes agree, it is less troublesome just keeping it to yourself.

Whoa. The mother coming to your house to demand an apology...that was too much. :( But yeah, it happens. That's also the reason why I only give criticism to people who ask.

Aww, Saphri. :(

I agree with you there - sometimes it can definitely be more trouble than i'ts worth as I had a similar experience online years ago. This reminds me of when they erected the Good Samaritan Laws to protect those who are honestly trying to help from being punished for their actions. *hugs*
