Chicago Winter

Dec 19, 2008 19:23

I never quite realized how bad commuting in a Chicago winter was before.  Tuesday night brought me a four hour commute home, instead of my usual hour or hour and a half.  Today brought me a pothole that destroyed the sidewall on one tire and stressed another sidewall enough to cause a bubble to form, weakening the tire enough to make it a ticking time bomb.  That's gonna cost me roughly $120 per tire, before we talk about fitting and taxes (which, as we all know, are the highest in the country here).  Yay!

I'm surprisingly calm about the tire situation, probably because I feared suspension damage.  The suspension hasn't been inspected yet, but everything was smooth on the spare tire, so it should be fine.  Despite being normal Bridgestones, no one seems to have my tires in stock except for the dealer, so I'll have a whole service done tomorrow.  Not at all how I planned to spend my Saturday off, but there you go.

Work has been insane, as expected.  There is no economic slowdown in the LEGO store--in fact, we're up on last year.  I just can't wait for things to go back to normal, though.  The crazy mall hours are the worst part--open 8AM to 11PM.  We don't see a customer until 9:15AM on a good day.  January can't come soon enough.
