The adventure continues

Thursday: After two and a half hours and help from 8 of our now-favorite people, the 4 of us managed to dig out our driveway using shovels, cookie sheets, anything that would help move snow - and just in time to finish packing and leave for the airport. The cookie sheets actually worked really well - when the snow is as high as your waist it's hard to use a shovel, so we used the sheets to clear the top portions of the snow and then used shovels on the bottom. We actually started running out of room to put the snow because we have a nonexistent yard. Our neighbors are mostly summer people, though, so their yard is piled high now. We managed to get a path wide enough to get all 3 cars out of the driveway. The person our landlord hired to remove snow also works for the city, so he couldn't make it any earlier than noon and we had to leave then for the airport. It only took us an extra half hour to drive to the airport, which is amazing considering the amount of snow we'd gotten and the windy conditions blowing snow across the road. Luckily my roommate has snow tires and is an experienced winter driver. Two of us were flying out that afternoon, or at least supposed to. My friend's flight was canceled and she had to wait until 6am to catch a flight to Chicago. My flight, thankfully, was only delayed for a couple of hours. It actually worked out well because I could keep her company for awhile. I also managed to catch the last flight from Chicago to MSP and made it to my parents' around 11:30pm.

More later - right now I have a nephew to cuddle.
