First I'm glad you like the romance ^__^ But no, I don't find putting duty before love as wrong. It's a matter of what you're looking for in life which is different in each person. The bottom line is, I am insecure and you're not. It is because I'm insecure that I find love the most important thing in the world to me because I believe I have never been loved. And it's because you have been loved that you already have a home for your heart that allows you to value something else above love because you already have it. So in terms of Fei, I interpret him as someone who has never been loved either and I do feel that love is what he needs the most. Meaning a man who can't give Fei love and dedication every time he needs it for whatever reason is never going to make Fei happy no matter how much he loves Fei. But that is my interpretation of Fei that differs from yours. You don't find Fei insecure, just heartbroken over Asami and it's understandable in that sense that you'd find Yoh/Fei possible. (not that I will expect someone secure to understand insecurity, because if you do you too would be insecure) But I too think perhaps someone or even Yoh will cure Fei from his insecurity and then Yoh/Fei would work. But not before that happens. Never before that happens. So as it stands, I still think this is the right reaction from Fei for the time being. But what I have in store for later might be a surprise for you. ^_^ (given that you pick the tragic ending to this fic)
I think it's just how we interpret the character according to our experience. There is no right or wrong to it (unless you're talking about manga Fei, which is so messed up I don't really care about keeping him IC anymore because it isn't possible with YA changing her mind every few months) ^__^ I think it's wonderful that I get so many versions of Fei in fics. That's why fics are great XD
