Pet Food Recall

Mar 17, 2007 17:00

This has been all over my flist, so you may have already seen it, but just in case:

Menu Foods, the Ontario-based company that produced the pet food, said Saturday it was recalling dog food sold under 48 brands and cat food sold under 40 brands including Iams, Nutro and Eukanuba. The food was distributed throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico by major retailers such as Wal-Mart, Kroger and Safeway.

An unknown number of cats and dogs had suffered kidney failure and about 10 died after eating the affected pet food, the company said.

The list of recalled brands is here.

Fortunately, I don't use any of the brands on the list, but will have to check with the parents to make sure the babies back home are okay. Also need to check in about this -- ammonia leaked from a railroad tank car Saturday and the fumes led authorities to evacuate several homes in southern Lake City. Lake City is just south of my home town so the train just passed through there. It seems to have been contained to Lake City, but still . . . eek!
