Yeah, that's right, you heard me. I hate baseball, but I'm taking up the fanbase. Okay, I don't hate baseball--I actually love to play it (even though I'm not very good at all) and used to play softball for four years--but I've never been a fan of the pros. I guess the games are just a bit boring... there are SO MANY to keep up with (unlike football, where you get a good dose on the weekends). They have a game practically every day.
Anyway, as I've probably complained about before, I've had a few problems with my roommate, Amber. Last night around 2 in the morning, she left my frying pan on the stove with nothing in it and went to walk Rosie... setting off our fire alarms and ruining the pan. Kelly and I speculated that she was high when this happened... So yeah, that was exciting. This morning when I walked into the kitchen she was sitting in the living room and said nothing to me as I unloaded the dishwasher and cleaned everything in the sink.
It wasn't until about 45 minutes later, when she was getting ready to leave that she said anything at all. She burst out with an announcement of the Cubs and White Sox schedule. "Oh that's right..." she said, "You're not a fan of baseball." "It's not that i don't like it," I replied gently, pouring myself a cup of coffee, "its just that I don't keep up with it." She went on to chat excitedly about the world series and how excited she was that her teams were doing well. I asked a few dumb questions about baseball to seem vaguely interested, continuing to clean the kitchen.
I felt a little bad, though. I mean, even though she was driving Kelly and I (and Lauren to an extent) absolutely crazy, she wasn't a "bad person". She was just a little... absent minded. A little stupid. Possibly just permanently damaged by all of her partying. Anyway, ridden a bit by guilt for ignoring her, I spoke up. "Well, maybe we can watch the game. You can... teach me about baseball." She looked really excited. "Really? You're not doing anything tomorrow?" "No, not yet." "Great! Then we'll watch the game. You can come with me and some friends and we'll go to the Green Parrot and I know all the bar tenders so they'll hook us up with a bunch of free shots and beers and it'll be great--" "Okay, sure." "Okay, I have to go to class, see you later." I waved, going back to washing the dishes.
Just one game... it can't hurt, right? Kelly and I *do* have to live with her for the rest of the year, so we might as well be on good terms with her, right? ~___~
