So my commencement speech at the Beijing BISS International School went well, thanks in part to a good kicker last joke that
bokane supplied when we met up yesterday at the Bookworm. I managed to get good laughs and didn't come off as nervous as I actually was. Amazing how after all these years I still suffer from such terrible stage fright. I still wretch and heave and my blood pressure spikes regularly before a big show.
Bidness thangs continue to go well. I just had the Billboard string passed off to me (hopefully), and Betsy and I made a good deal with an excellent freelancer named
Ron Gluckman to resell his material, most of which has a nice long shelf life. We're contemplating taking on a China business newsletter project in partnership with a woman from the States I know.
Jeremy, Mauro and
Jerry came by late last night and we swilled Scotch and ate veal liverwurst spread on crackers while congratulating Mauro on his recent engagement to the lovely Vanessa. They're to be wed in Rome in October 2005. I wouldn't miss it for the world. Vanessa scored huge points with me the first time I met her: she demonstrated, at my earnest behest and without hesitation, that she could spray water out the hole of her below-the-lip piercing when she took the stud out and took a sip. Mauro, she's a keeper.
