nominations for Yuletide

Here's my nominations for Yuletide though I may change my mind before Tuesday.

Ginn Hale - Wicked Gentlemen
Colson Whitehead - The Intuitionist
Geraldine Brooks - People of the Book
C.R.A.Z.Y. (2005)
Roger Norman - Albion's Dream

My really brief and hurried descriptions that do not do justice to their subjects:
Wicked Gentlemen is M/M fantasy that kinda reminds me of the Bartimaeus Trilogy, in that it's a gothic fantasy-London setting with magic and demons. Otherwise, it's completely different!

The Intuitionist is a really awesome novel about a black female elevator inspector who gets entangled in a war between two schools of elevator inspectors (Intuitionists and Empiricists) and the search for the elevator "black box"; takes place in a city that is implicitly New York. (See wikipedia for more details.)

People of the Book is based on a true story about an illustrated haggadah and the hands, lands, and centuries through which it has passed. I didn't like the main character storyline but the historical characters were fascinating.

C.R.A.Z.Y. is a French-Canadian film about a boy growing up in a large, crazy family in the 1980s, trying to figure out his sexuality. Subverts expectations by focusing on his relationship with his dad, instead of romantic aspects.

Albion's Dream is a REALLY REALLY obscure YA novel in two boys "play an ancient, handmade game called Albion's Dream without realizing, at first, that events they set in motion on the board are also transpiring, in parallel, in real life" (Kirkus Reviews.) Kind of like Jumanji but darker and more British. I read it when I was in grade school and finally bought it used last year because I wanted to read it again so much.

My first nomination was actually going to be Naomi Wallace - One Flea Spare (a play) but it was already on the list of fandoms nominated for 2009! Though obviously, I'll need to check and make sure it's still there before nominations close.
