Hello everyone! My name is Katherine Harris and I am a junior here at the University of Georgia. Currently, my major is psychology, though I think I would be willing to change this if something more interesting catches my eye. I am considering a minor in both Spanish and Chinese, but I am unsure that I would be able to complete all the requirements for both minors while being able to graduate on time.
To me, graduating “on time” is no big issue, as I feel no particular rush to go into the “real world,” but my family seems to have a different outlook. I have no real plans or even any clue as to what I would really like to do with my future. I guess I’m still trying to find something that makes me happy. My family is of the opinion that I daydream too much. Perhaps they are right.
Last semester, I went on a study abroad program to Taiwan in an attempt to improve my Chinese listening and speaking ability. Regretfully, neither my Chinese nor my Spanish for that matter (since I took a Spanish language course in attempts not to forget everything) improved much. I think the only thing that changed was my English ability regressing. I seem to confuse words a lot now and occasionally will rearrange where nouns, verbs, and so on normally go in English sentences. It makes for some really funny moments. I do not consider my time in Taiwan wasted though. I was able to make many new friends and I have some great stories (if anyone would care to swap) about stupid things I did while there (although I’ll mostly blame the language barrier and culture shock :P).
