I want to live in amsterdam

Sep 02, 2006 11:00

I'm officially moved into my new apartment. I'm still unpacking a few boxes, but other than that I'm all set up. I'm able to steal wireless internet from some open network right now.

I came back from Amsterdam a week ago. The trip was really great. My hotel was close to the red light district, but was really really nice. The first night there I got to see a drag queen festival in dutch. Second night there I saw the prostitutes in the windows.

My conference was a ton of fun too. Those mite men are pretty crazy. I talked to this old man named Norm Fashing (pretty much famous--look him up on google). He discovered mites that live in carniverous pitcher plants among other things. Hans introduced me to a bunch of people including a woman who worked on the Millipede mites I'd like to work on. I also met a woman that's good friends with Sue and works on Varroa mites- bee mites.

I set up my poster ("Seven fixatives and their effect on DNA Amplification") on Wednesday for people to see. I was surprised to see that people were actually taking notes off of my poster. A lot of people were asking me questions and surprisingly i was able to answer most of them. One person told me that he hopes i publish this because it is really useful and there aren't enough people doing research on how to do research better. Overall I was really proud of my work.

My new apartment is really cute. It's sort of small, but the right size for my stuff. I'm really happy that there are so many windows. I have huge bay windows in the bedroom/living room, 2 in the kitchen, and one in the hallway, so ventilation is really good. My Murphy's bed (folds into the wall) is pretty sweet. I'll probably leave it out of the wall 98% of the time. I stuck my futon mattress on top of it and it's really squishy. I think the bottom mattress is really worn in or something because it sort of makes the bed sink in the middle and i feel like I'm in a birds nest. I like it though.

Luna is missing Oakley, but she's having a good time staring out of all of the windows and running up and down the hallway like she's being chased.

Today is the first OSU Game of the year. I don't have tickets to the pre-season games, and I don't have cable, so I guess I won't watch it. I'm sure I'll hear about it through my big windows from the street. haha

Well if anyone wants my new address leave me a comment or IM me. Later bitches.
