A friend of mine had tickets to go see Shutter Island for free at the midnight premiere last night. And, well . . .
Warning for brief cursing below the cut.
First of all, more to get it out of my system than anything else . . . holy fucking shit.
Shutter Island throws you into the action from the very beginning. The movie opens in 1954 with U.S. Marshal Edward "Teddy" Daniels (Leonardo di Caprio) and his partner Chuck Aule (Mark Ruffalo) on a boat headed for an island housing a mental institution. The pair is intending to investigate the disappearance of a patient from her sealed room. As they continue, though, they discover an intricate plan that will shatter Teddy's world.
When watching the movie, you need to keep in mind that it's a psychological thriller. The above paragraph is a restatement of the official movie summary, but only because I'm trying to avoid giving away the twist. There are flashes of foreshadowing throughout the movie, and it is, of course, extremely obvious if you've already read the book which inspired the movie. I haven't, but the friend who took me to see the movie has a copy of the book that she's lending me once she's finished rereading it herself.
All the little touches in the movie make the movie perfect as much as the plot does - the ash lingering on Teddy as a woman burns from the inside out in his arms (see the trailer; it's brief, but there), the shadows and shower scenes, the handcuffs on each patient, and the explanation of the twist at the end of the movie.
Overall . . . as much as I was startled in some parts of the movie (unnecessary jump scares inserted in various portions being the reason), I would definitely consider watching the movie again, and maybe even buy it once it comes out on DVD. Now I just need to write enough about it that that Magic Kaito bunny will stop nibbling at the edge of my brain.
Well, File 724 concludes the latest DC case. I'm rather amused by Haibara's facial expression in this particular case - the annoyance, the stormy anger, and the smug look on her face at the end.
A guy living in my hall at college showed a group of us the music video which is at the ending credits for the game Plants vs. Zombies. In case anyone hasn't seen it and wants to, it's here:

Well, that's all for tonight. I'll probably have the first drabble response up sometime tomorrow, but plan to have it finished tonight. I'll just need to go back and make sure I didn't misspell anything and that it all makes sense.
Notes: I end up posting everything to this journal anyway, so I'm deleting my shxkn_iw account sometime in the next week. All personal responses will therefore go to the appropriate Wordpress account, shxkniw.
Good night!
Edit: Fixed minor capitalization problem and corrected the cursing warning.
