Proud Pet Mommy

So my mom just called a while ago and told me that she had left some mulberries out for Duluth and that I was supposed to feed her. I knew that she wasn't liking her new bedding too much so I had to put in her in tub, wait for her to decide to move, and then watch her eat, which was the cutest thing in the world!!! Ever since, well, high school, I have had much time to spend with my turtle (as well as you can spend time with one), so it was kind of nice to watch her for a while.

I still remember when I got her in 8th grade. I sort of knew she was coming. I had asked for a guinea pig for Chirstmas that year, and a few weeks before my mom said "Is it okay if you don't get a guinea pig, but something else? Like a reptile?" I was like "Sure, I like lizards, snakes, iguanas... well, I guess that's a lizard." With that I left the room, but I thought about it for a few minutes and popped back in to my mother and said, "Oh yeah, and I love turtles!!" I knew she was coming.

At that point I decided to think up a name so I'd be ready. I wasn't sure if it'd be a boy or a girl or if we'd even know, so I tried my best to think of a good name. Eventually I remembered something my brother said a long time ago: "Duluth would be a good name for a dog." The thing is, my dad's a mailman. We're never getting a dog. So I thought that if it suited this turtle, that would be a good name!

Sure enough, a few days before Christmas Eve (we're of German descent so that's when we open presents), I was forbidden from entering the laundry room (the warmest room in our house). And, on Christmas Eve as we came home from playing recorders at church (I play the bass!)/looking at lights... voila! There she was! She was taken out of the wild who knows when, and eventually got passed down through owners until she came to me ^^. Her last owner was an intern at the Nature Center where my mom works, so that's how we got her. I found out a few months later that her name used to be Monster. I like Duluth better XD. What's really strange is that she's older than I am. By nearly twice as much. If I remember correctly and am added correctly, she's around 39. And turtle years are the same as people years. But she's just so... SQUEE!

She's very strange for a turtle. She's a lot like me, actually ^^;. She loves music (I used to sing to her when I had more time to just sit by her aquarium thingy) and she also loves climbing. One time we were letting her run around the house and we literally found her in the middle of a stack of clothes. I don't know how she got there, but there she was! She's also one of the pickiest eaters I've ever seen other than me. Every other turtle in the world loves bananas, but she won't touch the things. Her favorites are grapes and mulberries. I just gave her the latter. They turn her mouth purple, hee hee. She's also surprisingly fast. One time I set her on the floor, turned around for a few seconds, turned back and she was gone. I had no idea of where she went. Now that I'm home and not as busy, maybe I can make some more time for her ^^.

And, of course, you must see pictures of my Luthy!

Ph34r her XD

Eep! Dinner time! Oh, and for those of you that replied to the meme on my last post, I sort of want to answer everything at the same time so I'm waiting to see if I get more takers ^^. I didn't forget you.
