He helps you through your dreams.
It’s more than either of you could have expected. For months you’d been locked up in a ward with nurses chattering through their rounds and the sickeningly clean smell of antiseptic, thinking he was too busy out fucking strangers to visit you just one time.
But he’s there when you wake up with tears stinging your eyes and the bitter taste of fear is forming itself in your throat. You think you should thank him, but he silences you with soft kisses on your neck and the words of reassurance you didn’t know he had in his vocabulary - the one you’d thought was limited to phrases of seduction and resistance to society’s conservative values.
You think maybe he might love you if it weren’t for the other men, but maybe he loves you in spite of that. After all, they go home, and you stay there. It’s you who is enveloped in his sheets and knows of the slight snore he’ll always deny.
You never thought you’d see another man as beautiful but there Brian Kinney is. He always falls asleep before you, though you’ll never let him know that your eyes are only shut so he won’t be afraid words might slip out in his slumber that he’ll regret (it’s happened once, and you don’t know whether to believe if he meant it or not.)
You know you’re wrong and he’ll probably break your heart.
But he holds your hand through your dreams (the bad ones where you don’t survive or you’re doomed to a life hooked up to machines and monitors) and tells you it will be alright, so for the ephemeral moments you spend in his embrace - it’s enough.
