I think I posted this somewhere before, but due to recent events it belongs here again:

Each day I waited in silent harmony,
Gazing down dusty roads that I'd never travelled
Scanning a horizon I'd never reach
Losing my thoughts in an endless sky.
Each day, the sun set, like the flick of a switch
Night fell like a blanket across that desolate plain
And there I remained, beneath a leafless tree
Humming softly the song I wrote for you some time ago.
Each day, I forgot the day before
And yet, the same sort of things always seemed to happen.
Given the existence uttered forth, time ceased to exist.
Each day was like the last, save a few minor details
Some days the tree was leafless, other days it had leaves
Some days the tree was blooming, other days it sagged with fruit.
Occasionally, this happened in the expected order,
But order meant nothing.
I once picked some of the tree's flowers for you,
Quite a stunning bouquet.
I awoke the next morning to find a lifeless tree
And an arm full of branches.
I could not remember where the branches had come from
So I assumed they had just fallen from the tree.
I did not remember picking flowers the day before.
I lived outside time without extension
On the the plains in the mountains by the seas by the rivers.
Gazing down dusty roads that I'd never travelled
Scanning a horizon I'd never reach
Losing my thoughts in an endless sky.
One morning I awoke, and there was no tree.
I did not remember that it had been there,
Yet I expected it to be there anyway.
But when I turned to look for it,
You were there instead.
So I took your hand,
And we headed down one of those dusty roads
We headed toward the horizon.
I did not look back to where the tree had been,
But I'm sure that when we turned away from it,
It was there again.
