Title: Change of Heart
Part II
DO KYUNGSOO AND LEE MIN AH BROKE UP! KRYSTAL JUNG IS THE NEW TARGET?
KIM JONGIN HAD AN AFFAIR WITH KIM DAHYUN!
KYRSTAL JUNG IS THE NEW HOTTEST GIRL!
FIRST TIME IN HISTORY : SCHOOL’S HEARTBREAKERS DO KYUNGSOO AND KIM JONGIN ARE HITTING ON KRYSTAL JUNG!
HOTTEST : LOVE TRIANGLE BETWEEN DO KYUNGSOO, KIM JONGIN AND KRYSTAL JUNG! WHO’LL BE THE WINNER?
It has become a well-known secret that the two ultimate heartbreakers in the school are chasing the same girl, not to mention the new hottest girl in town (Krystal’s goddess-ness has been spread through the whole district, especially the neighbor schools). The fact that they’re residing the same class only adding more proofs on their affairs and rendezvous. One day there are a lot of photos of Krystal and Jongin in the dance studio, dancing sexily and laughing gracefully. Another day, there are a lot of videos of Krystal and Kyungsoo in the theater, singing ballad with warm eyes and cute smiles. Fandoms of both couples are inevitable they even make polls for the power couple each week, every month. And the results are always in thin line.
It’s also inevitable that Jongin and Kyungsoo have more encounters than before because this is the first time the school’s ultimate heartbreakers are hitting on the same girl. They’ve never peculiarly crossed path because their ideal type is opposite. Krystal Jung just happens to have both sides, which are able to attract the south and north.
Funny as it is, there are also a minority which’s siding on the possibility of Jongin and Kyungsoo as a couple. More often than not they’ve captured Jongin and Kyungsoo in one frame with their target nowhere in sight (Kyungsoo cursed loudly at Baekhyun and Luhan about this scandal, this must be them).
Kyungsoo has actually become concerned about this after some girls (they said they’re in his fandom) showed him the pictures and articles regarding the sudden closeness of the supposed rivals; although in his eyes, it’s clear as blue sky that their frequent moments are because Krystal is one hell of a difficult girl.
Recently, Krystal is not cooperative enough, even for Jongin. Kyungsoo is still wondering how he knows about it too but he just knows (Jongin actually told him, boldly, randomly, spontaneously you name it). And Kyungsoo just happens to feel the same and everything’s just relatable. Then at that one particular day, both of them actually talked, without any theme about Krystal or girls in general.
Flashback
Jongin bumps into Kyungsoo for the fourth time that day after his little unsuccessful attempt on asking Krystal on a dinner date. He doesn’t understand her attic sometimes. Is it because she’s been living in America for so long? He doesn’t have a single idea on how western life is. But it surely is difficult to handle her personality. She’s sometimes so haughty and bold it drives Jongin out of his mind (not that he’s complaining; if anything, this kind of demeanor is intriguing). She has a very smart and sneaky mouth that he doesn’t know how to reply. She even dismisses his romantic poems with another poem that sounds sweet but actually sarcastic. She’d laugh at his dejected face and Jongin could only sulk. And then there comes days like this, when she’s acting out of her sassy self and being all mysterious without clear reason of why she doesn’t want to have dinner with him. ‘I swear I’m going crazy’.
“KIM JONGIN! Look at where you’re heading!”
Kyungsoo’s voice startles him and he jumps two feet in the air. He places a hand on his chest to calm the rumbling beat inside his ribcage. He curses under his breath and tries to show a menacing glare at Kyungsoo. Yet his thoughts are all over the place so he deflates himself.
The shorter male raises an eyebrow at this because Kim Jongin and dejected face don’t match. No great scientists in this could justice it. Kyungsoo doesn’t know what has gotten into him but he finds himself asking.
“What’s up with the face, Kim?”
Jongin’s respond is immediate; he exhales tiredly like he just run a marathon. He leans his body on the nearest wall, one feet presses the studs on the wall, arms are crossed together.
“Have you ever felt like you’re just done with all of this? All this stupid love game.”
Kyungsoo’s eyebrows are shot up so high and he can’t hide his surprised expression. ‘This doesn’t sound like Kim Jongin at all. Is he drunk? Did he hit something?’ But before Kyungsoo can ask him further, Jongin immediately elaborates.
“This girl is frustrating, don’t you think? And I’m just tired of everything. I’ve been pondering a lot, you know, why the hell in the first place I became this mess? I mean, I have loving mother and sisters, although they like to annoy me to no end, but the point is, they’re woman and I respect them a lot. Without them, I’d be nothing. They’ve taught me a lot than my father, actually. So, why am I treating the exact same gender as my mom and sisters like shit? It’s like I’m treating them like shits too? Ahh…I don’t know.”
There’s a long pause after Jongin’s little confession. A part of Kyungsoo’s brain still doesn’t comprehend why Kim Jongin, his rival, suddenly tells him stories about himself and his confused state of mind on what he’s been doing for years. But the bigger part of his brain (and his heart) empathizes with it as Kyungsoo has been questioning himself. He lets out a small sigh and leans on the wall next to Jongin, figure mirroring the taller male beside him.
“I used to be anti-social back then. It was really hard for me to open up and I was really, really shy. Especially to girls. I don’t know why but I thought that time, girls were scary. I still think up until this day that they’re scary, though. Anyway, it was probably just me trying to protect myself from the immense anxiety to be around them. I badly needed to save myself so I had to overpower them. Baekhyun used to be my shield because he was, still is, never affected by girls. But he got his own life, of course, so I had to fight the anxiety alone. And I think it had gone wrong. Still going wrong…”
Jongin looks at Kyungsoo intently, finding it amusing and endearing at the same time that this one guy, one of the top heartbreaker at Anyang, was once a very shy and introverted boy. He can see that Kyungsoo’s regretting it too; playing with love like this is never the best escapade. Jongin genuinely smiles at this. They are humans after all; they have feelings too and they know someone’s heart should never be manipulated this way; their actions would never be justified.
“I think we both are just stupid, emotional and instable teenagers, don’t you think?”
Kyungsoo lifts up his head and their eyes meet. Jongin is still staring intently, trying to read more about his supposed rival through his dark, dark brown eyes. There are a lot of things there and he doesn’t know what stir his heart at this very moment, but this must have massive power because suddenly Jongin’s heart is stuttering badly.
“Yes, we are.”
Jongin’s stare doesn’t falter, if anything it gets stronger and Kyungsoo’s beginning to feel uneasy. But god forbids, it’s not a terrible feeling. He can feel his stomach churn and blush creeping in his cheeks at the intense attention he’s receiving because, god, Jongin is beautiful.
‘DO KYUNGSOO! GET YOURSELF TOGETHER!’
“Uh….”
Kyungsoo averts his eyes and looks at anything but Jongin to settle down the uneasiness that’s still bubbling inside his stomach. He scolds himself repeatedly for having that thought because he’s straight as pole, no? Yes, he is.
Jongin suddenly chuckles and… is that a shy smile?
“You’re so cute, Soo.”
‘Uh…what?’ Kyungsoo’s eyes widen at this and he turns his back to fully advert his sight from any Jongin-related. ‘Just what the hell happened to this guy?’ He takes a deep breath and tries his hardest to compose himself before he turns his back and spit fire to Jongin’s handsome annoying face.
“Before you say anything, let’s go grab lunch. There’s no fun today, might as well be losers together. You comin’?”
Kyungsoo gapes at him but unconsciously nods his head. And, there goes their strange relationship.
As much as Kyungsoo despises to admit it, that one day actually opened his eyes to a lot of things. There were a lot of things happened when they grabbed late lunch together outside of school. Jongin’s actually poetic and he has great vision of the world. His brain is not severely damaged because he still could explain human’s reproduction in proper sentences with the biological meaning. Kyungsoo remembered laughing so hard at Jongin’s proud expression and his silly dance celebration. That time, he wondered if he and Jongin didn’t meet in this messed up situation, would they be the best of friends? They’re very different in a lot of aspects at the same time they have many things in common. ’And that stare….WOW HOLD ON, DO KYUNGSOO. What the hell was that? Stop thinking useless things!’
***
“Wow, what? You’re giving up on Krystal?”
“Yeah…”
“What the hell dude? Just because of what? Because Krystal refused to have duet with you? Can you be even more ridiculous?”
After his encounter with Kyungsoo that day, he contemplated on giving it another try. However, he came to Krystal the next day for one last attempt, being his usual self and asked Krystal to have a duet with him for the annual art festival. But his body, mind, heart and soul were rejecting every idea of it that he could almost taste bitter poison in his mouth from all the sickening words he said. He felt bad in every aspect and he immediately wanted to reclaim his words and never actually offered it to the girl.
Krystal had looked at him with her usual contemplating face, lips pouting slightly and an eyebrow hung slightly above her bangs. Jongin could feel a rejection and true to his words, the girl rejected. It was like being washed by holy water, Jongin was incredibly relieved. He tried to hold his smile because thanks all the gods above, and earth, and all elements in the world because he didn’t have to prepare unnecessary speech to cancel the duet if she ever accepted. Jongin opted on a stoic face after that and shrugged casually, accepting Krystal rejection with open hands, without his characteristic whining and complaining. Krystal had looked at him weirdly, catching fast with the sudden shift of behavior, but this is Krystal we’re talking about, no one knows what’s going on in her mind. Nonetheless, Jongin felt strangely yet pleasantly satisfied with Krystal’s rejection.
“Told you, girls are complicated! Remember my uncle? He married a guy because girls are too complicated! Besides, he’s a dermatologist, his patients are all girls and he said - “
“Shut up, Chanyeol!”
“ - they’re all coming to the clinic just to flirt with him! Waahhh…so unbelievable.”
“Yeol…that has nothing to do with girls being complicated…”
“Okay. Okay. But you called Kyungsoo ’Soo’, and ’baby, anyway so it’s just another reas - “
“YOU WHAT?!”
Sehun’s exaggerated scream booms across the room. Jongin sighs for the umpteenth time in a span of thirty minutes because of his best friends’ antiques more than his own problem. It actually was Park fucking Chanyeol’s fault. It was just another inevitable meeting between him and Kyungsoo because apparently, they both have appointments with Krystal at almost similar time. This happened before that one peculiar day and Jongin was only trying to drive Kyungsoo off the edge as usual by calling him Soo baby. Only to make him irritated. Chanyeol had to come to the wrong time and caught the pet-name in an entirely different meaning. Since that day, Chanyeol’s been teasing him to no end.
“Excuse you, Park Chanyeol, I’ve been calling him that far before you caught that.”
Ooopss. Jongin’s eyes widen comically at the sudden realization of what he just said. Oh shit, no, wrong move. Shit. Chanyeol’s already clacking on the floor because Jongin has just practically dug his own grave and Sehun throws him the most judgmental look he’s ever received after years of befriending him.
“Wow, Kim Jongin. This is even more ridiculous. You have a lot of things to explain.”
The tanned-male slumps his entire body under the bed sheet. He also didn’t expect things to turn out this way. Never in his wildest dream that he’d harbor a feeling to another man, let alone Do Kyungsoo. But that one particular day only tightened his chest in a surprisingly pleasant way. Kyungsoo is truly an amazing person. He’s quite wise and observant for his age. He’d make it big if he didn’t go to art school but a normal school instead and be a psychologist or a lawyer. But he’s really passionate about singing and he dares to dream big. He has great vision on his future and he’s trying hard to achieve it. His admiration sky-rocketed for every aspect of it because how could a small guy like him do and think big things like that? Jongin couldn’t help the butterflies that swung their wings exceptionally harder in his stomach and for once, after all this time, he felt extremely contented with his supposed rival. And it was not a bad thing. Not at all.
***
“Uh, what? You knew…. what?”
Sehun looks at Krystal incredulously. He expects Krystal to freak out at him, or punch him, or freak out and punch him at the same time. He’s been waiting for Krystal’s upset expression, the downcast eyes that show immense betrayal because apparently the guy who’s supposed to court her, is harboring romantic feelings towards another guy (and this another guy is the supposed rival). Sehun even makes exaggerated question marks and exclamations to make Krystal understand that he’s not joking. But Krystal seems to not be joking too.
“I’ve known all along, Sehun. I mean, do you really think I’m that stupid? Come on, first day at school? Jongin approached me at lunch after me and Kyungsoo walked around the school. And then Kyungsoo looked so offended because Jongin probably challenged him. Then magic happened and I was fast to open up to Jongin. I honestly think he’s an easy going person, hence why I like him. But then Kyungsoo came and almost reenacted Jongin’s not-so-subtle way of asking me out. The days ahead were full of Jongin and I’s moments along with Kyungsoo and I’s. They even made poll for the power couple. I swear to god that was so unnecessary. And to tell you, Oh Sehun, more often than not I did it on purpose to let them be together and girl, Jongin’s stares changed one day. He looked so fond of Kyungsoo it felt like I was the intruder. I’m not blind, Sehun.”
Krystal chuckles at her own comedy and Sehun can tell that she’s genuinely amused. Sehun feels like punching a wall. If Sehun has not declared himself as a full-time gay last year, he’d probably snatch Krystal right then and there. This girl is too perfect to be betrayed with two assholes like Jongin and Kyungsoo (again, too bad Oh Sehun has laid his eyes on certain senior since the first day of school and he’s determined to make him his before graduation). Sehun pats Krystal’s shoulder gently, sending friendly and sympathetic smile towards the girl.
“So what’s your plan?”
“My plan? Well, I don’t need one, though. It’s going on its own way, Sehun. You see there, they’re even together now. I don’t need to do anything. The only thing I can do is just be myself and have fun. I might have a little crush on Jongin, I admit, but nah, maybe that’s just a fling. Besides, don’t you think they’re cute together?”
Sehun has already lost Krystal the moment he spots Jongin and Kyungsoo together in yet another same frame. They’re facing each other in safe distance, but after Krystal’s explanation, Sehun can understand why she thought she was the intruder. Even now, right at this time, Sehun feels like he’s witnessing something so intense going on between them with just simple movements. Jongin’s eyes are locked on Kyungsoo’s and strangely enough, Kyungsoo doesn’t waver on the intimidating gaze. Kyungsoo replies just as intense, it almost feels like they both never wants to release each other’s hold.
This makes both Sehun and Krystal flustered. The atmosphere is too tight Sehun needs to look away. Krystal looks to another direction as little laughter bubbles from the back of her mouth. She elbows Sehun gently to emphasize her point and Sehun can only sigh in defeat. As long as Jongin is happy…
***
The air outside is humid but the room temperature around them is pretty high. The building tension between them worsens the heat and Jongin wants so badly to punch something. Or kiss something, like a heart-shaped lips. Do Kyungsoo has been frustrating him for the past weeks and Jongin thinks he doesn’t need even more contemplation to settle down his feeling. Kim Jongin has fallen for Do Kyungsoo.
From the look of it, Kyungsoo seems to have the idea too but there are still million doubts behind his dark brown eyes. Kyungsoo has been acting so defensive every time he teases him. At first he thought it’s just because Kyungsoo’s not a loose person, finding it irritable to joke around with pet-name. But few times Kyungsoo looked actually mad at him for calling him pet-names Jongin considered on stopping. Yet, after a good observation and calculated measurement (Jongin copied Kyungsoo very well, right?), he found out that the possibility of Kyungsoo having the same feeling as him is high. He’s just in denial with a lot of doubts.
“Let’s go.”
“Where?”
“Just follow me.”
“Answer me first.”
“You’re not rejecting.”
Kyungsoo sighs. Jongin has learned too much about him for a supposed rival and it backfires at him on full force. The tanned-male now has more calculated moves to everything he’s desired to do. Kyungsoo’s not quite sure but Jongin has been projecting this new-found behavior more (or especially) towards Kyungsoo because Krystal is barely around anymore. Kyungsoo finds himself not minding it, though. In all honesty, it’s quite exciting. Kyungsoo has also learned a lot of things and according to Jongin - also Baekhyun and Luhan actually, but every word Jongin says recently has been Kyungsoo’s personal bible - he has changed to be bolder and unfiltered. He has more smart remarks than before.
JFC, Kyungsoo, wake up! His mind screams at him yet again. It has been screaming at him a lot since Jongin and him keep having encounters even that has zero thing to do with Krystal. Kyungsoo’s still afraid of the idea of liking another man; but the idea of liking Kim Jongin doesn’t sound so bad. Kyungsoo’s even intrigued to know how it’d flow between him and Jongin if they ever dated each other. Damn…It’s..not a bad picture at all, though…
While Kyungsoo’s too busy indulging in his own thoughts, Jongin takes the chance to drag him away from public’s eyes, walking through several hallways to lead them to the school’s football field. He takes a sharp right turn after the second door and they’re arrived in the men’s locker room. Only when Jongin releases his wrist Kyungsoo’s aware of his surroundings. His wide eyes automatically scanning the steel lockers, pristine pavements underneath their feet, dim lights beneath their heads. His eyes then lay and stop on certain mocha orbs and he frowns.
“Do you bring every girl here whenever you want to make out?”
“Yes. I mean no! I mean - wait, wait, wait, hold on. Why did you think we’re going to make out?”
“I didn’t say we are going to make out.”
“But…”
“So you did want to make out with me.”
“You trapped me.”
“YOU brought me here. At least find a more decent place to make out, Jongin.”
“So you want to make out with me?”
Kyungsoo zips his mouth instantly at this, eyes impossibly wide Jongin’s afraid they’d pop out anytime soon. But above all, he can only smirk at Kyungsoo’s blatant comment, only convincing him even more that Kyungsoo indeed has grown romantic feelings towards him. Jongin takes a step forward; firm and certain despite the bass drum that’s booming loudly in his chest. In all honesty, Jongin is very nervous right now. He’s never been this nervous around his exes. Not even in the first meeting or first stage of courting. He takes a deep breath and tries to calm himself. ’Kyungsoo’s probably different, after all. Not because he’s a man, of course.’
Jongin takes Kyungsoo’s hand in his as he’s locking gaze with him, trying to communicate with Kyungsoo’s inner and call him out of his shell. It’s very apparent that Kyungsoo’s afraid. He takes small steps backwards but he does nothing to let go of Jongin’s hold on him. Kyungsoo can easily yank Jongin off and probably throw Jongin off the locker to make it dramatic; but he doesn’t and it’s a clear cue for Jongin to go on.
“You still have a chance to run away, Soo.”
Jongin’s voice is so tender, it melts the ice inside Kyungsoo’s heart slowly. Kyungsoo parts his lips to form any coherent answer, or mere comment, but no words escape his lips so he closes both pillow closely. He has no idea how to idea how to respond because his mind and heart are beginning to synchronizing on accepting this situation, which is scary. But Kyungsoo can feel his doubts fading away and only a vacant seat, only a memory. He opts on a shake of head in the end, albeit shyly, as looking at anything on the floor - ants, dusts, Jongin’s shoelaces, Jongin’s no-sock-feet - to avoid any more embarrassing or worse, hurting actions.
A soft chuckle escapes Jongin’s mouth and Kyungsoo starts to think it’s all a joke when suddenly there’re lips pressed against his own; so sweet, so tender, just a brief chaste one but lingers for a long time. Kyungsoo lets out a silent gasp as he steps back, trying to compose himself. His breathing is ragged and he can’t explain the million butterflies dancing in his stomach and the immense fluttering in his chest he might actually die from a heart attack.
“You still have chance to run away, Kyungsoo. I’m not going to force you.”
Jongin repeats himself, eyes keep lingering on Kyungsoo. Kyungsoo looks up and once more, they’re in their own world. Jongin’s eyes are so warm and sincere, there’s a transparent fondness on how he looks at him, a hint of safe and sound, a certainty.
The overwhelming feelings drive Kyungsoo crazy to the point he doesn’t care anymore, he should stop thinking much and ’fuck it, I like Jongin so much it’s unbearable’. He crashes their mouths once again, this time more heated than before, needier, full of passion and lust. There are sweet, sweet sweets when they taste each other cavern, exploring every nook and cranny of one’s mouth, mapping the new found delicacies which is each other’s lips.
They’re groping each other messily, having zero experience on how to make out with the same gender, but Jongin’s leading the way so far - courtesy of Oh Sehun and Park Chanyeol; they almost did threesome if Jongin didn’t run for his life - as he places Kyungsoo’s hand at the back of his neck and begins properly claiming that luscious heart-shaped lips.
Kyungsoo nibbles here and there, tongue, teeth, lips working nonstop on Jongin’s chiseled jaw, down to his neck, down, down, down to his covered chest and out of instinct, he rips open Jongin’s shirt and he hungrily continues licking every part of Jongin’s tanned-skin.
Kyungsoo is amazed on how beautiful Jongin is; his board chest and shoulders are perfect place for pretty pink-purple hickeys; his strong abs are perfect place to leave lingering touch from his own fierce and pale fingers; his bulky biceps are perfect place to grip on passionate affection. Kyungsoo could explore Jongin’s body for the whole day; but he realizes he’d take the whole of his life to explore their affections towards each other. And he doesn’t mind it. Not at all.
Jongin does it rather slowly in return, one by one unbuttoning Kyungsoo’s pristine shirt; artfully leaving traces on Kyungsoo’s neck and chest while admiring how his porcelain skin shimmering even under dim lights; carefully kissing every part of Kyungsoo’s ribs and his flat stomach; smoothly caressing Kyungsoo’s strong arms and his fierce fingers, intertwining them as their lips meet again in more feverish way.
Both of them stumble on wrong foot or wrong position during their make-out session; not once or twice they move in the wrong direction that make one bumps onto the other’s neck or forehead, but they enjoy it nonetheless. This is their turning point; this is where they find themselves in each other.
“I really like you, Kyungsoo. It’s been a while, actually.”
“I noticed.”
“You did? I…well the actual reason I brought you here is to make sure that you…”
“That me what?”
Jongin stops nibbling and unlatches his chest from Kyungsoo’s lips but still gripping on the smaller one’s waist tightly. He takes his time to admire Kyungsoo’s perfect jaw, his doe-eyes, his full and pink lips, his slightly pointed nose. This man in his arms is truly picturesque, words can’t describe him. He caresses Kyungsoo’s cheek ever so gently and Kyungsoo mewls shamelessly at the delicate touch, building tension triggers his arousal.
Kyungsoo grabs Jongin’s hand and plants soft kisses repeatedly, eyes never leaving Jongin’s glowing face. Kyungsoo only notices now how sharp Jongin’s jaw is, his perfect pointed nose, his thick black eyebrows that don’t match his gorgeous blonde hair but still manage to be so attractive.
Jongin wants to chuckle out of adoration because they both were jocks few days back, certainly an alpha in sex, and here they are trying to dominate each other. Jongin would love to witness as well as playing along with top Kyungsoo as the lead role, but he has a more serious matter that should be discussed.
“Do Kyungsoo, do you like me?”
There’s a pregnant pause linger around them and Jongin begins to dread on Kyungsoo’s answer. They’re currently having the most mind-blowing make-out session he’s ever experienced and Jongin has openly confessed to his supposed rival, he’s even sure now that he won’t mind seeing this every single second of his life, as close as this proximity, for…probably for a long time. There’s no way Kyungsoo doesn’t have even a little bit affection towards him.
Yet there’s no answer and Jongin begins to lose hope. He is looking down after five long seconds, hands very hesitantly releasing Kyungsoo’s waist and every idea of being with this beautiful man. But before he can drown himself in a real heartbreak, Kyungsoo suddenly grips his jaw and attacks him with a passionate kiss that drives him to the edge. Jongin’s eyes widen in surprise at the unexpected action, breath and heart going in identical rhythm. Kyungsoo coos at the caught-off-guard expression on his ex-rival and rewards him another peck on the lips.
“After all these make-out? Hell yeah, Kim. I won’t lose you for the world.”
’In the end, I give up, Kim. I give up my heart too. Please take care of it.’
