The weekend, part: HAPPY DISTRACTION EMOTIONS

Aug 17, 2010 01:17

The past three days of BKK were filled with ups and downs, of which the downs were documented through that lovely outlet of Twitter. I still have a post in me about that that I might post tomorrow or later, but I feel that it shouldn't be smooshed in with this. Because don't get me wrong, this weekend was also filled with joy and awesome and the fact that I now truly recognize how Dad's actions speak louder than just plain words. HE FEEDS ME WITH LOVE.

One of the only requests that I had coming over was that I wanted steak. Figured we'd just head for a steak-house one night or something, but little did I expect the foodapalooza that was awaiting.

SAT:
Started off well enough that Dad came to pick me up from the airport. Regaled him on the way back home with Call-center tales and had the gratifying reaction of actually reducing him to guffaws (it was the old lady calling the lonely hearts number to complain about how stupid she thought one of the guys with an ad out sounded one).

Dinner: We even went into town! Steinpilz risotto, horse-meat cured "ham"/salami platter (surprisingly delicious! and not actually blatantly "other"-tasting as one would expect), traditional cheese fondue! and that kind where you fry the bits of meat in oil with all the accompanying side dishes, followed by some always wonderful Moevenpick ice cream at Thomas' restaurant. FULL OF DELICIOUS SWISSNESS and I will never get sick of listening to him and Dad either dissing each other or gossiping like old biddies about the F&B/food supplier ~scene in Bangkok. There are expansive hand-gestures! Declarations of others incompetence! And much disapproving shaking of heads.

SUN:
When I woke up the next morning, Dad beckoned me into the kitchen and presented me with the most beautiful of sights: A TOP SUPPLIER GRADE GIANT PIECE OF AUSTRALIAN WAGYU BEEF FILET. Supplier grade French duck liver. White asparagus and baby mixed greens. Which would all be made into delicious, delicious lunch. And by god was it THE BEST THING EVER. The filet steaks were grilled to tender perfection and were wonderfully complimented by the pieces of crunchy on the outside, creamy smooth duck liver goodness that melted into ♥A GALAXY OF AMAZING♥ in your mouth. My mouth is vaguely watering just remembering. SO BRILLIANT.

But the parade of food wasn't over yet as Dad introduced me to dinner's planned menu, which was more of the filet steak but this time as part of a creamy pasta dish. He didn't have any stock to flavor the sauce, and it was thus basically cream, onions/shallots/garlic, salt and pepper but somehow all the more tasty for its simplicity. There was also dessert to keep in mind- a super pimping fruit salad filled with apples, oranges, pears, red grapes, pineapple, strawberries and CHERRIES. CHERRIES! Dark red, firm, sweet and beautiful cherries. I had been craving cherries for the past few WEEKS and now. I had them. UNFF. Also discovered the whipped cream canister and choc chips in the fridge and you betcha I made myself the best fruit salad bowl ever. Got to eat them while I convinced Dad that we should watch Inglourious Basterds and I got to further bask in Christoph Waltz's genius and hear Dad be all "...this guy is GOOD! He's Austrian? No wonder." (re: Waltz) and "Which one is Brad Pitt?" (l-lol).

I also spent Sunday wishing I had extra stomachs, because there was also the just-right durian and the box of figs that Dad also bought for me. Oh that durian was creamy, smooth and sweet excellence. MHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.

It goes without saying that I will have to work my ass off at the gym this week, but oh it was SO DAMN WORTH IT. Oh my god.

TL;DR: HAVING A CHEF FOR A DAD IS THE BEST THING EVER.

TODAY: Well, I was thinking about seeing if I could finagle a last-minute meet-up with someone in the roughly four hours I had in town before I had to leave for the airport, and I am somewhat ashamed to say I went FUCK THIS I WANNA SHOP. And well, shop I did! Now that the haze of intense shopping madness has somewhat died down, I remain quite happy with my haul.
