Thank you Grandmother

Aug 11, 2010 20:13

This Grandmother who has wisdom in her fingers; who spins the history of the Navajo on a simple spindle taught me something right now.

I was busy looking for faster ways to try spinning: wheels, or electric-which ever would get the job done fastest. But Grandmother, this woman who did not know me and I did not know her until a few minutes ago taught me a lesson from the Spirit World. She is gone now so only her words on this video are left but she reached out and shared something with me.

Slow down. Not so fast. What is the hurry when the beauty is in the simple art of spinning the fibers carefully so it is not "crying" and holds fast. This Grandmother moving in a slow methodical way told me that I didn't need to hurry. I stopped and listen. So I thank you, Grandmother. You are gone so I can't speak your name here but I want to thank you.

I'm ordering my drop spindle tonight.
