Critical of things? Yeah when you this its too much work to follow the original

So the co-worker comes in with random comment is random. He saw a HS play of Beauty and the Beast. I joked at him when he said the wife dragged him but it turned out pretty good. Ok, I can hang with that-then I ask:

"Wait. Was it the original or the Disney version?"

Pause. "Yeah, it was the Disney version with all the props and stuff."

Ok color me impressed that they got their hands on copyright stuff...real impressed. Then of course I ask him did he know there is an original version that isn't as shiny as or song filled as disney's glaringly clean original version. Anyone who has read the original story knows it isn't even as busy or at first nice as the disney's bleached out version. No songs. No dancing dishes. The people are invisible and she is very much alone. So now, yours truely is on a role about the teens not knowing anything about the original stories disney cleaned up to sell as the one and only. I give them only mad props for their original works which are good when they try.

We will ignore Fantasia 2000 because it sucked donkey cock. In my opinion of course.

"I fault the parents," I say "For not reading the real stories of Beauty and the Beast or Pinocchio (don't even get me started on that one!!). I read the original story about 20 times. It is a lot darker and would probably appeal more to modern teens because it is dark and not all washed over. But the action parts are non-existant which disney had to fill in."

He shrugs, kind of laughs then says:

"No body is going to do all that research that takes too much to find out if say a news report or story is like correct. I mean its out there if they want to know but sometimes you know its too much reading." he says

I think I had a look of disgust on my face.

"That is lazy talk." I retort.

"Yeah its out there," he says "But you know sometimes it takes a lot to comb through what is there and who would do that?

I raised my hand. "I do so because I want to know why this is that. I'm queen of useless knowledge because I want to know more than what I see." Then I add. "I grew up poor so we did not go out much and all I had was books. If I wanted to know something, I've gone to books. I didn't know about Beauty and the Beast until I read the story as a pre-teen."

He called me too negative about everything. (huh?) "You always have to judge things." Damn skippy dude but only about things. I really dislike HATE blanket statements.

I am critical of anything considered "standard" when the original is just as good but not acceptable because of its "negative" tones or its too much work to find out the real deal. Whatever. No wonder people thing we are a bunch of wussies-we have disney in the drama class instead of REAL stories with all the gore and messages NOT in the cleaned up stuff.

tl;dr: Disney being played in HS Drama class is major fail IMO of course. I would have thought the modern version of Romeo and Juliet would be a better choice even if I find it a cop out not to stick to Shakesphere's works. Mad props if they got all the costumes for G-rated boring Beauty and the Beast. I hope someday someone does the real version of this story like they did for Pinocchio years and years ago.

Critical post is critical & negative.

critical post is critical, school, co-workers, failboat
