Actually I got back this morning around 2:40am after a mad dash across a still hot desert. I am glad I kind of left earlier than planned because of this very thing. That plus the lack of traffic and how tired I would have been from the heat and unpacking the truck.
Arizona is awesome. I am sorry I didn't get back to you,
1_mad_squirrel. I guess I didn't plan my trip in a timely way. I think I was very surprised at how much driving it takes to get around. So next time around, girl drinks are on me! We can go to Oaxaca in Sedona as their Desert Lemonade with Prickly Pear syrup is to die for! I found my internet connection there very not reliable so I also missed out on calling someone who lived there for dinner. :\ Overall, I took too much (again) but enjoyed my upgraded Kottage because of all the tea and water I was drinking had me running to the bathroom several times in a night. I even had a/c which I never used-overhead fan worked just as well.
On the way down to Sedona, I saw several places I could have stayed at for a couple of days but it would not have been as cheap as KOA. However, I will look into them now since I have tons of tourist stuff from Sedona, Jerome and surrounding areas. That will help with planning next time and if it is less expensive I might even consider flying in.....maybe. Or taking a train (fun!).
The Grand Canyon. Wow. Just. Wow. I called Mom from the East rim telling her no amount of photos, documentaries, other people's visits would explain the incredible beauty Mother Earth's waters created when they flowed through the rocks and landscape. You have to be there; experience it soak in the old, old energies of the Grand Canyon. If I had not had the worst walking shoes ever and a still bum ankle I might have made it to Hopi peak I was so in awe. I filled one camera up of just photos of the Canyon with a couple few of me stuck in there. A nice couple took my picture near one of safe places to look down the side. Just looking over the side (safe areas) or peeking through cracks that open up to 100s of feet of cliff face gave me chills. Colors true to the southwest in all shades made me see how people want their houses to have that "sunset on the walls" in their house. Next to Island colors, Southwestern themes are my favorites.
So look for some pictures in the next day or two of my adventures. I also took some while driving but mostly I stared around at everything until my eyes hurt. Arizona is one of those places I'd like to move to when I retire but only if I have my own land with water access and well of course INTERNET. I think Kelly would love it as would a second horse. Now to find someone who also thinks moving to Az instead of staying in Calif is a good idea. :D
