This week has been so damn busy! Between the gym and stables I feel like I've only been home a couple of days.
Kelly acted up yesterday so what was suppose to be an easy friday turned into the unwanted lesson about stopping when I say stop. One thing I did notice is that she is much more fit than I had thought. I stuck her big ass saddle on with then intent to just have her work up a light sweat with extra weight on. Plus its been ages since that saddle was on her. Yeah. Great idea.
By the time she stopped her stupid, she was literally wet from head to hoof. I made her canter for 10 minutes. Any slowing down, she had to go faster. She was so tired from all that, plus I put her on the hotwalker for like 10 minutes so she could dry a bit more, she gave me no shit going into the stall or her usual backing up excerise. Ha-ha.
I even left her standing in the barn all tacked up while I went to work with Sala. Kelly needs some refresher for sure with moving out space and proper Lunging techniques. That is my fault for not being more consistant with that. I will have to improve on those if she is to become a better horse. Back to ebay for some more Clinton DVDs on lunging for respect.
Sala is a ball of energy when he has it. He really is a pretty laid back Arab with a cute floaty movement and nice canter. He did some roll backs on a dime very nicely. He is a lot of work. It could be at least 9 months or more before he is rideable. It is very expensive to start a horse under saddle with a trainer. I want one that will work with me otherwise it would be better if I got a push button arabian.
He is very nice and really would be a treasure to own however, I do not think I have the $$$ to purchase him or have him trained properly. My horse still has issues so why take on another problem. I'd be better off taking over Rocky and working with him instead. If his owners are gone permenantly, I would rather work with him. He's older but not a complete jackass. Plus he just needs some touch ups and rides and consistant farrier work.
I have a week to really work with Sala to see if we mesh together. I do like him but he doesn't grab me like some horses have-he'd be better off in more experienced hands. Someone who has time and money to put into a great western pleasure horse. That is definintely Sala!
