He Epistole

What a nicely written little newsletter. I was reading a back issue where one gentleman was describing his encounter with Dionysis through learning about his own mental disorders. A lot of it sounds like stuff I have but in a milder form coupled with the depression. Anyway, I digress. He mentioned having a talk with Kyrene (whom I haven't spoken to in YEARS but remember being quite the devotee of Apollon) regarding Apollon and Dionysis and she stated that Apollon is about knowing yourself and Dionysis is about finding yourself.
Dude. I was speechless. I re-read it a few times to make sure that statement would stick in my head. It also makes me wonder about the tales of men and women who would run wild in the woods in Ancient Greece following the God, drunk has all get and not being proper Greeks. Not every one would do this only some who perhaps did not fit the "mold" of proper Greek people of the time or might have even been the equivilant of ancient hippies. *snort* It is almost shamanic hearing of people giving up everything to ride their own minds drunk on alternate substances (grapes to wine) while celebrating the God (or Gods) in to the wee night experiencing the moment.

First Burning Man perhaps? :D

All kidding aside, I am impressed with He Epistole and have purchased the back issues book they put out so I can read everything.

shamanic happenings, he epistole newsletter, apollon, dionysis, hellenic religion
