Got back from Seattle last night (technically this morning I suppose), and I guess I should probably write a few words about it.

First, the competition: It was very fun and very disappointing at the same time, there were some problems with the scoring and the Red Team (aka the hackers), and some other...irksome things that aren't entirely in the scope of the competition, but I don't want to get more specific than that on the blog, in the odd chance that someone chances upon it. Our team did really well in practice, not on the scoring because our domain controller got shut down by the Red Team which wasn't supposed to happen (they weren't supposed to actually cripple any of your machines you see). As lame as it might sound, I know that our team rocked, despite whatever the score might say.

Second, Seattle itself. It's a very nice city, we spent Friday wandering around the city for about 8 hours or so, just taking in the sights, looking for a specific bank, as well as a specific brewery amongst other things. I want to go back to check out the Sci Fi museum there, and their science center. Woulda been pretty awesome to go when we were there, but I think I probably could have only convinced two of the others to tag along, and one's a maybe. Definitely need to go back.

Also checked out Bellevue too, once a suburb of Seattle, since that's where our hotel was at. To sum Bellevue up in a word: Yuppie. Very clean, lots of "no trespassing" signs, cleanly cut trails (I personally liked the trails, a friend didn't cuz he thought they were a little too tended) but the two little horse circles didn't exactly due much to disprove the yuppieness. Also have a couple cell phone pics around one of Boeing's buildings, since they had a specific no camera sign. Had to disobey that.

Third, my grad application has finally been pulled by the department, so it should only be a short amount of time before I learn about my acceptance. I kind of hope I am accepted, since I already signed up for classes: Programming Language Implementation and Compilers, Complexity of Algorithms, Intrusion Detection, and after four goddamned years, Computer Graphics. So one and a half fun classes, so that's all good.

Last, I guess I wanted to say that I'm back to being excited about my internship. I wasn't for a while, since I'm going to an unknown situation, and won't know anyone, and the fact that I wasn't exactly the top choice for the whole internship thing. Granted, the two that I know of who were offered it before me are bloody brilliant, it still is... demoralizing I guess. But I'm digressing. Anyway, I'm looking forward to going to North Carolina for the summer, and I'm definitely planning on taking some sort of camera with me (going to try to finagle borrowing my dad's digital camera or something, or just take my film one) so expect pictures posted and all that. Have a few other things planned for the summer for projects which will hopefully be finished. Mainly I want to get some webspace so I can have a personal site that works a bit better than lj. Who knows if I'll get onto that.
