I love these. This one comes from Janis Ian's website
janisian.com who I came across watching the 2nd episode of Saturday Night Live (see prior posting about streaming video - yay!). She is a longtime singer/songwriter, an advocate against the RIAA, a contributor to the Advocate, and a science fiction author.
I was impressed by her vocals on SNL.1 Also, my gaydar, what remains of it, went ping-ping-ping, so between the two I was encouraged to I look up her history. According to Wikipedia, she came out in 1993. Nice to know the gaydar is still online! As is she; she's been singing and recording consistently since 1965; she has 34 concerts scheduled for 2010. See her next locally at
Berklee College 4/4 -4/9,
Tupelo Music Hall in Salisbury on 4/11, and the
Colonial Theater in Pittsfield 4/17.
Here's the disclaimer:
"The RIAA doesn't want you to see this page!! Yes, free music (as in "Free Beer"!) in the spirit of the landmark article.
"The Internet Debacle" Go ahead, download, listen! We promise not to sue you.*
....
*disclaimer from our legal department. We don't *exactly* promise not to sue you, but you have to do something really bad, unrelated to downloading our music from our web site, to get that sort of attention. Even then, we probably won't even bring up the whole "downloading" thing unless you really irritate us."
1 Added later: per her self-report, she was singing with strep throat and a fever of 103.
