I stopped to peek at my paralegal's computer; it was blank. I asked her
what she was doing, and she said nothing, but that she was checking her
emails to see if I had sent her any new tasks.

I told her that if she ever runs out of tasks, she has to tell me. That I sometimes do not give her tasks because I do not want to overwhelm her.

Am I crazy, as a supervisor, for being annoyed that she didn't think of this herself? Wouldn't you expect a halfway competent, or at least minimally ambitious, employee, to come to you and say 'I'm not busy, what can I do' instead of just sitting there?

Arrrgh!
