A Full Night's Sleep Would Be Lovely, Thanks
A morning in the life of TEH KAI in two parts.
Dramatis Personae
TEH KAI: College student currently on summer break. 21, in need of a decent breakfast and a shower. Often ends up sounding like a really bad British wannabe in the morning.
BLACKIE: Also referred to as VERY ADORABLE PUPPY. Labrador Retriever, 12 or 13, adorable.
RANDOM GUY: A random man out walking his dog. Early 30s. Wearing sunglasses.
Setting
A suburban apartment complex in the middle of North Carolina on Monday, June 13, 2011 at 7:10 AM.
SCENE ONE
(A bedroom in the apartment complex, early in the morning. The room is messy and in need of a good cleaning. A fan keeps the room cool, but a pile of blankets covers the person asleep in the bed. TEH KAI is not planning on waking up for at least two hours.)
BLACKIE
(outside the bedroom door, most likely wearing a very sad look of adorableness)
Woof.
TEH KAI
Oh, bugger.
BLACKIE
(more insistently and is, in fact, just getting into stride with regards to whiny barking)
Woof!
TEH KAI
(rises from the bed like a zombie, tossing aside blankets and an MP3 player that happened to be in the way)
Fine, fine, I'm up!
(She wobbles on her feet briefly, eyes closing, and falls back on the bed with a loud thump and a snore.)
BLACKIE
WOOF!
TEH KAI
(rolling out of bed)
Fine, fine... I'm up...
SCENE TWO
(The parking lot and dog-walking area of the apartment complex. Most of the cars are gone, and the sun is just rising. TEH KAI and BLACKIE wander around. BLACKIE sniffs everything in sight, including the road, an anthill, and her own paws. TEH KAI somehow manages to stay upright while walking with her eyes closed.)
TEH KAI
Such are my mornings, these beautiful days
Spent not in the comfort of my warm bed
But wandering 'round as if in a deep maze
Light in my eyes and an ache in my head
Cute is my dog, my adorable pup
Yet eager to wake me on Monday morn
To drag me from sleep she barks, "Please get up!"
Ignoring my mumbles and glares of scorn
My dreams flee me now, a pity for me
For in them, as always, were wondrous sights
A fanfic idea for Arthur and Eames1
But lost to me now are those fleeting delights
Such is my not-so-long tale of woe
Hurry up, pup, back to bed I shall go!
BLACKIE
(happily)
Woof!
RANDOM GUY
(Enters with his dog, and nods politely to TEH KAI)
TEH KAI
(nods back)
BLACKIE
(Suddenly, not happy, for there is another dog! Begins to bark and look surprisingly menacing for an old dog who really just wants to play.)
Woof!!
TEH KAI
(suddenly dropping the very bad British accent she affects in the morning; it is obvious that she is from the South)
Oh no you don't, not right now.
(pulling the VERY ADORABLE PUPPY away while waving an apology to RANDOM GUY)
You know what time it is? It's seven-frikkin-AM on a Monday, I'm wandering around like a zombie, and we are not gonna do the whole barking at any living thing that comes near us thing right now, y'hear? I will let you eat a little kid this afternoon if you want, but right now, we are going back inside and going back to bed.
(Once out of sight of RANDOM GUY and his dog, BLACKIE calms down quickly and begins to sniff the pavement again. TEH KAI sighs and runs a hand through her hair, which is threatening to eat her head.)
TEH KAI
All the neighbors think we're freaks, you know?
(back to crappy faux-Brit-ness)
Bugger all this for a lark...
END.

1 It's a stretch, yeah, but sonnets in the morning are hard.
