...by the person who has to call me - often from school, to my school - to remind her how to copy and paste.
(I love my mom, seriously, but we tend to get on each other's nerves rather frequently. It's gotten a lot better now that I'm on antidepressants and have grown up a bit, but there are just some things that the women of the Kaihouse can't do without arguing. Matter of fact, this entry is now about my mom. Early Mother's Day thing, and all.)
So tomorrow is my oldest cousin's wedding! It's on the beach down in Wilmington, and I'm really excited about it. The weather's supposed to be awesome (it's been surprisingly nice lately, even around here), and I get to see my little cousins again~ Plus food cooked by Uncle John and Aunt Pat, and teasing mah favorite cousin, Cousin Guy. Thomas-side family get-togethers are always fun.
We were going to stay at a hotel on Saturday night and return Sunday, but we had to make a last minute change of plans and are just going to drive home Saturday night. Suits me better because I hate hotels, but that's beside the point. Since I made the reservation online, Kaimama asked me to cancel it, referencing the confirmation email that I had printed out for her use. I was like, "I have it in my email inbox still, it's fine," and went off.
Canceling the reservation was easy enough, and I did it between reading Good Omens fanfic and losing playing Solitaire. Then a short while later, I wandered out to get some soda, and told Kaimama that I had done it. Cue Kaimama's D:< face.
Kaimama: But did you get the paper here and follow the instructions? It said you had to enter the reservation code exactly as it is here...
Kai: (sighs, foreseeing a long fight of pointlessness) Mom, I had it in my email still. It's fine, it's cancelled.
Kaimama: But you didn't get this paper from me, so how did you do it like the paper said?
Kai: Because I had the original email, Mom... that's just a copy of it. I have the cancellation email in my inbox too.
Kaimama: (in tone that indicates she is growing increasingly aggravated with me, will most likely accuse me of 'being smart' or something soon) Okay, but did you--
Kaipapa: (interrupting, as the argument has wandered into the office where he is playing Mahjong) She said she did it, E*, it's fine.
Kaimama: I'm just making sure, because she never came to get this paper where it says...
Kai: (contemplating several snarky remarks, however is working on that brain-to-mouth filter) It was an easy process, Mom, really. It's done, I promise.
Kaimama: (sighing, as if still unsure) If you're sure...
*Kaipapa's nickname for Kaimama. One of many.
Admittedly, I have a track record of doing things wrongly, either because I've forgotten steps (ADHD, woohoo!) or neglected to do it outright. And even with my meds, I'm still a flake on occasion. But just...jeez, I swear she wanders between 'you can't do this unless I'm standing over you holding your hand!' and 'why didn't you get this done exactly the way I wanted it done?'
And then we don't do so well with appointments and things, because (sadly, I know) she still makes my hair appointments and occasionally dental ones, while I just stay concerned with therapists. Thing is, she'll tell me 'you have a hair appointment next week', and forget to tell me when. Then, the next week, I'll be puttering around the house near bedtime, and she'll be like, 'don't forget you have a hair appointment tomorrow!' and I'll be like, 'wait, wut.'
So...forgetfulness on both our parts.
Shopping is another nightmare for us. Again, this is something that's gotten better as I've gotten older and mellowed out (thank you, Prozac!), but it's something that we'll never quite see eye-to-eye on. Usually, I get away with shopping with mah pal Kaasan (who is rather like my mother, only shorter and more likely to put up with my rambling about Final Fantasy VII), but when it comes to clothes for weddings, well...
But she's my mom, so hey.
Still, I'm going to remember this email incident the next time she calls me at 8AM wanting to know how to print something...
I'm going to have to come up with a better Mother's Day tribute... XD
