FanSee tagged me for this....

FanSee tagged me for this "six quirks" meme. My apologies for taking so long to respond (see #5, below).

I’m going to put this under a cut because I probably should have added a seventh quirk-I can’t shut up!

1. I must pour the milk or cream into my tea or coffee first. Drives some of my friends nuts; others have realized the wisdom of doing it that way and adopted the custom.

2. I’m fanatical about the use of the English language. Grammar, spelling, sentence construction, the works. I also believe in writing the way you speak, which is sometimes incompatible with “proper English,” but it’s a fun challenge. I know this is a loaded issue here on LJ, so I mention it with some trepidation. So when I screw up, you can all point your fingers and go, “Neener, neener!”

3. I’m an email junkie. Because I work at home, supposedly on my dissertation, I’m on the computer many hours each day and I probably check my email ten times an hour. In the morning, I check even before stumbling downstairs to make coffee, and it’s the last thing I do before tumbling into bed. I know FanSee and probably some of the rest of you can relate to this!

4. I’m devoted to studying, recreating, and wearing nineteenth-century costume, underwear and all. Used to be 1890s, but I’m no longer willing to alter my body shape in the painful ways that those styles require, so my new love is First Empire/Regency (1800-1820 or so).

5. I LOVE to dance, and particularly English Country Dance (think “Pride and Prejudice”). In part this is because you don’t need a partner (Miss D. emphatically does NOT dance), but also because you get to dress up. Our local group is hosting the annual Playford Ball next Saturday night (gasp!), so I’ve been frantically making a new ball gown this last couple of weeks instead of being here with you all. If anyone’s interested I can post photos later.

6. I was having trouble coming up with Number Six until I looked around this office…. I am incurably messy. It’s been like that since I was a kid. My first “job” around the house (to earn allowance money) was cleaning the house every week; that lasted two entire weeks before Mom fired me. After that I cooked for the family, which worked out fine, until I left for college.
