Hey...
I got a job.
I'm a waitress at the historic Turquoise Room. I'm not too thrilled about it. I met the owner and she seems like she's just trying to screw over old people with money. They told me I'm more than a server...I'm a storyteller. I don't know...I'll try it for a while...you make bank in tips.
Everything is fine here.I miss the college experience that I would have had in Tucson. I love being with my family, but I kind of miss being on my own. It's strange to do things with three other people when you're so used to doing everything alone.
School is cool/ghey. I didn't realize how many of my classes would be long-distance learning.
My World Lit class is teleconferenced...which is dumb. People eat and drink and leave whenever they want to and the teacher is kind of old so he only really remembers this girl Kristy and this other girl Krissy. How fucking retarded is that?
My Intro to Phil class is a video class...which is dumb. You just put the system on mute and he never knows you're there after attendance. The teacher looks like Mr. Pike or that guy from Mythbusters and he seems really nice, but there's this know it all dick at his location who won't shut up. Yes, I can even hate people I can't see!
BTW: The video classes are just like webcasts from all the different locations which is like 7. They're voice activated so you don't really ever have to be seen.
Oh! I made my first "college friend" in Phil. Her name is Heather. She's not a total idiot so maybe we'll get along.
Eng101 is okay. It's also a video class, but I'm all alone in that one. Meaning I'm the only one in my building everyone else is at other locations. The book we're using is really basic but after our first free-write and class discussion I can see why. Our first free-write was "what's your most prized possession?" No one would volunteer so he called on people at random and after hearing two people pick "my family" he asked if anyone picked an object. I thought it was funny. Our first class discussion reminded me of junior year with that whole interpreting pictures thing. We did the same thing with a couple of Sally Mann's photos and I actually spoke up. But he does have that Mr J quality about him where he doesn't really tell you if your right or not. It bugs me.
My math lab is dumb too. I thought it was a class but it's not. It's self paced technical calculus or whatever you're taking. There is a teacher but I don't think she could help me if she tried. Anyways, my first test is Tuesday.
Thank Jebus I only have school two days a week.
Call or write or text...I miss you guys!
