The gratuitous Eurovision -related blog post.
I may or may not have just spent hours watching different Eurovision videos and I regret nothing. Anyway, here are the ones that kind of pop for me:
Denmark
Ok, I'm usually not a big fan of the breathless sounding way of singing but I'm making an exception here. If it makes me twitch in rhythm it has to be good (or you know, on my scale). I love the drums and that mini recorder I can't even can! I do have some concerns about the general sound of the song - very campy, very Eurovision - and I'm slightly afraid liking this song says something about my taste in music in general. Let's hope not.
Greece
For the first time in my life I a) can tell which song is from Greece, b) remember it after hearing it, c) for once the band doesn't have women in waterline-short miniskirts in it and d) I actually like their song. Hell may really be freezing over (must have begun in the year of Lordi and is still going on)(I mean come on, Greece?!).
I admit I could dance to this a lot.
Iceland
FINALLY ICELAND SINGS IN ICELANDIC FUCKING FINALLY. In the previous years they have always translated their songs into English after first winning at home with the Icelandic version. Needless to mention that the English translations tend to fail miserably.
I... can't help loving this song. It's somehow massively Icelandic (duh) and, and, and, oh my God I'm too much of a Real Man to talk about this song while sober. But I appreciate it. I truly do.
Montenegro
I'm just going to leave this here.
Romania
I had to find my jaw from the floor after the song really got going. Holy shit. After that I just sat in stunned silence knowing that if this one isn't in the finals I'm going to lose all hope in humanity.
