All year I've been ecstatic about this trip but now my enthusiasm has melted into nervousness. I worry that Kate and I won't find lodgings in Italy and that we'll roam around Joseph and Mary style with tacit antipathy, born from days of group travel, between us. Pleasing images of cerulean Mediterranean water and other friendly, wannabe Bohemian backpackers flicker in my mind like a teaser of the weeks to come but I'm still anxious because I fear that I made some logistical mistake. Regardless of how smoothly our plans go, I expect my leather bound journal to abound with memories that will remind me of the adventure, camaraderie, and surprises I will experience starting tomorrow.
