So Saturday
mishmosh had to work so I went to the mall alone and did some browsing in the comic book store.
I had as recently as 2 weeks ago already picked up these books-
Uncanny X-Men #'s 498 and 499
Giant Sized Astonishing X-Men #1
Ultimate Origins #'s 1 and 2
and
Superman/Batman #'s 48 and 49
They were all very good reads, especially the Origins and Superman/Batman books.
In Ultimate Origins the first issue takes place during the 1940's. Canada is working on it's own super soldier project and by chance they manage to map the human genome and alter it. Creating the world's first mutant. James Howlett aka Mutant 0 aka Wolverine.
(keep in mind the Ultimate's books have nothing to do with normal comic continuity)
In issue 2 they explore the US's super soldier project and how Nick Fury was a test subject for the serum and his tests allowed for advancements to be made in which Steve Rogers was chosen and made into Captain America.
The Superman/Batman books were awesome to say the least, the rundown is this-
Supes and Bats are working together to track down and destroy all Kryptonite on planet Earth. They discover that the military has Kryptonite weapons as a means to defend the US against Superman should he ever become a threat. Including a genetically altered soldier who's been transformed into a giant monster by using a combination of Kryptonite and Doomsday's DNA.
(Doomsday is the monster that killed Supes back in the early 90's)
After they subdue the creature they discover that Lexcorp is the company supplying these weapons. They fly to Metropolis to confront Luthor only to discover that he is no longer a part of Lexcorp and Superman's old girlfriend Lana Lang is now the CEO of Lexcorp. Alot of cool stuff happens involving 1000's of Kryptonite dirty bombs and Superman having to leave Earth but I won't spoil the ending, it's cool. Pick up issue 49 to see what I mean.
So while I was there Saturday I picked up these issues-
Uncanny X-Men #500
Ultimate Origins #3
and a Death of Captain America hard cover graphic novel
Uncanny X-Men #500 was really cool, the team sets up their new homebase in San Francisco and during a big celebration is their honor, they're attacked by Magneto and Sentinals.
Ultimate Origins #3 deals with the first meetings between Charles Xavier and Magneto
and the Cap book I bought is this badass story that since Captain America was killed a couple months back, as the new director of S.H.I.E.L.D. Tony Stark fulfills Cap's last request by hunting down and capturing The Winter Soldier. A bionically enhanced soldier that fought against us during the cold war because he was captured and brainwashed by the enemy. The Winter Soldier also happens to be James Buchanon, aka Bucky. Captain America's former teen sidekick!
So Tony Stark sit him down, the hash out an agreement, and Bucky becomes the new, less gentle, more of a badass Captain America. This guy not only carries Cap's shield, but he wears a gun on his hip too, and he uses it!
