Title: There
Word Count: 422
Summary: Prompt by Ajin: Infection and raspberry tea with honey // Sometimes, they just need each other.

Nino knows when Ohno is sick, no matter how well he hides it. There’s a particular droop in his shoulders; a specific weariness in the way he carries himself and the lines in his face; the way he walks around holding his fishing pole upside-down and acts even more absent-minded than before. Ohno cares so deeply for others that he tends to forget to care for himself, so Nino has to do it for him. He forces Ohno to sit or lay down and makes him that tea he’s so fond of, the kind Ohno’s mother started buying. Nino adds a hint of honey and mixes it in with the raspberry-flavored tea, and Ohno is still for long enough for Nino to find a way to force him to rest and recharge. There’s this clockwork to it all, or this systematic approach that’s guaranteed to work.

Except for today. But the thing is that Nino can tell that Ohno isn’t actually ill this time. The signs are all there, but not exactly the way they should be. There’s something frighteningly hollow about Ohno this time, as if it's his soul that's been infected, not his body, and his features carry something that Nino doesn’t recognize. Nino could never claim to know every side of Ohno, no matter how well they knew each other, but this unknown is absolutely terrifying. It feels as if this part of Ohno is one he should be familiar with, or as if this is the morphed, mutilated version of a part he once knew by heart.

“Hey,” he says quietly, sitting beside Ohno and bumping their shoulders together. Nino doesn’t ask if Ohno’s okay, because Ohno would just shrug and stare at the wall blankly. Besides, Nino knows the real answer.

Instead, Nino slinks his arms around him, pulling him into a loose hug, just enough to remind Ohno that he’s right there for him. And for some reason, the action shocks Ohno awake for a second, as he turns his head towards Nino with parted lips and wide eyes. “Nino,” he breathes, “I…”

Somehow, with that breath, Nino understands.

(Because that's how they tend to work: Ohno flies Nino to heights he never could have imagined, and he keeps Ohno grounded when Ohno begins to feel too free, too far away.)

He smiles as their mouths meet, and vaguely, he thinks of how Ohno’s tongue tastes like the raspberry tea he loves so much.

Strangely, yet not strangely at all, the taste is that of home.

Title: Morning Lights
Word Count: 270
Summary: Lazy mornings are simple and insignificant, but that doesn't make them any less precious.
Notes: Literally written first thing in the morning, as in I woke up, grabbed a notebook, and wrote.

Sleep crusts in his eyes and blurs out the world when Nino tries to blink awake. The apartment is silent except for the gentle, steady breathing from Ohno beside him, warm and flushed against his body. He smiles, placing chaste kisses on the corners of each of the older man’s still-closed eyelids, lashes tickling his lips. Then, he yawns, pressing further against (into - he can’t tell anymore) the sleeping body, closing his eyes again. Ohno mumbles with hot breath into Nino’s neck and sighs, tightening his embrace. He wonders if Ohno is whispering to his dreams.

It’d be nice, Nino thinks, if they didn’t need to bother dedicating any effort to the morning - if they could spend their time lazily, doing nothing but discovering exactly how much closer they could press together.

Ohno shifts in his sleep, humming a little and taking a deep, sleepy breath. “Work?” Nino manages to translate from the muffled voice. He’s surprised Ohno has enough coherency to consider such things.

“Not for a couple more hours.” Nino curls up in Ohno’s arms as if trying to convince Ohno and himself that for just a little while longer, they could stay like this.

“Okay,” Ohno replies simply. They keep drawing towards each other, but Nino’s not sure if they’ve even been getting closer at all, or if they’re in the same positions as they were a few minutes ago.

Vaguely, Nino wonders what sort of good things will happen later that day, after the morning lights are too bright to continue hiding, and when their obligations rise up with the sun and they begin to move.
