Dzongsar Jamyang Khyentse Rinpoche was born on July 6th, 1961, in Bhutan. He was recognized as the main incarnation of Khyentse lineage of Tibetan Buddhism. The First and Second Khyentse Rinpoches were instrumental in the non-sectarian movement of Tibet.
Rinpoche is considered to be an emanation of Vilamamitra, King Trisong Deutsen and the Bodhisattva Manjushri. His grandfather is His Holiness Dudjom Rinpoche, his father is Dungsay Thinley Norbu Rinpoche and his mother is Jamyang Choeden.
Rinpoche was first recognized by His Holiness the Sakya Trizin, who gave him the name Jamyang Thubten Chokyi Gyatso (Khyentse Norbu). This was confirmed by His Holiness the 16th Gyalwa Karmapa and the Sakya Dagchen Rinpoche.
Khyentse Rinpoche has studied with Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche, Dudjom Rinpoche, 16th Gyalwa Karmapa, and the Sakya Trizin. Since a young age he has been preserving the Buddha's teachings.
Rinpoche has established centers of learning, including established Dzongsar Monastery in exile in Himachal Pradesh. He has published books and bestowed teachings all over the world. Rinpoche is known for his ability to teach both eastern and western students. He produced his own movie, "The Cup," a tale about monks loving soccer (football). Rinpoche is a superb example for the younger generation Buddhist masters.
