I just had to write about this because it amused me to no end. I turned the corner to Gardner while walking home from the T and there, parked right at the corner is this fancy black car with its fender lying on the floor. The front end is COMPLETELY smashed in. There are motor vehicle parts that make the car work on the floor. I saw a fan. There are metal bits everywhere. There was a note.
I'm walking to the back of my house. As i approach the back, a girl driving an Uppercrust (pizza place) van is turning the corner down the driveway i'm walking. The side of the van gets caught on the metal stair rail. It makes this horrifyingly loud CLUNK noise and stops the vehicle completely. She tries to go forward. The rail is stuck IN THE VAN and stops it. My mouth is just hanging open shocked. She sees my face. In slow motion, she puts her hand to her mouth and looks around. I keep staring. She starts reversing. The rail is going with the truck. FInally, it springs free from the truck with this awful you're-going-to-get-fired-for-this TWANG. There is a huge dent in the door by the hinges. Imagine having to explain that when you get back to the restaurant.
I'm sitting on the porch in the front of the house, talking on the phone while watching every person on the street try to move in because today is Septemer 1st. The street is lined with cars. There are 3 parked uhauls and about 4 uhauls coming and going. They're probably different ones. Some asian girls park in front of our driveway, but they have no where else to park so they start unloading their car because they have to move it. Right as their finishing, my next door neighbor pulls up and asks them to move so she can get in. They finish unpacking their stuff onto the street and do. About 5 minutes later, a giant Ryder truck belonging to said neighbor starts to turn into the driveway. Very slowly, as if in slow motion, the back of the ryder truck completely takes out a desk those girls had unloaded. She starts yelling at the truck. They don't care.
Frame of reference: this all took place within an hour. What are the odds of that?
I start class tomorrow. I'm freaking out.
It's been one year exactly. It's hard to imagine the world moved on.
