"I am more like Batalus than Demosthenes"
I am more like Batalus than Demosthenes.
I stand and shout at the waves,
Secretly hoping they would cease,
So I could speak to people a continent away.
I move my tongue through a mouthful of pebbles,
spitting them out when my teacher can’t see.
I relax my mouth when speaking to the empty chamber,
Sthuh, sthah, uth, ith, ath.
But when I run, rejected, from Ecclesias,
I look back, and know that I will speak there again.
