Should I get a deviantArt account? I just want one to show off my handmade kimono and kanzashi stuff. Is their policy reasonable or shady? How bad is the trolling there?
I have one. I think it's pretty handy to have. My advice would be to not involve yourself in the community much. Forums or whatever it is that they call it. People pretty much leave you alone, but the more visible you are, the more they start to comment. And about 99% of the time, it's positive and encouraging.
Dev has gotten a lot better. The mods are so much more responsive about issues then what they were a year and a half ago. Or I would say NO. Art theft has gone down, and trollers are stamped out. It's very amusing watching my stalker get her ass banned within a 24 hour period of her creating account(after the trolling she did on my old page, and 2 other artists, she's close friends with an artist I like, so, I can kind of keep tabs on her so I know when to expect trolling ).
People are pretty nice, though, you get a lot of "OH KEWL! I LIEK!" But it's better then "U SUK" like on the snooty art places. It's great for a free portfolio set up.

Most people with accounts there seem to possess at least passable intelligence, and so the number of trolls there would seem to reflect this.
