So Anthony and I had a fun time at the gala last week. When we arrived, the first place we hit up was the bar. The bartenders were generous with the booze - my screwdrivers were 80% vodka, 20% juice. We made our way through the thick crowd of people, passing by a guy who was dressed as a friggin' chicken, and checked out some of the booths. We got a ton of free stuff from various vendors and representatives of design firms, including free cocktails. The food there wasn't that great, though - mostly goat food crap. Anthony actually heard one guy mention that he was gettin' the fuck out of the place and gettin' himself a steak - rock on, mang!
I didn't get to talk to many potential employers, since they were all so busy. Anthony got a bit of networking, at least. Got lots of compliments on my outfit, which was cool. The obi I wore was made myself, the fabric purchased from Britex Fabrics.
Anyway, there was a great fashion show, where fashion design majors from my school designed dresses made ENTIRELY out of paper. The theme of the event is "THE AFTERLIFE: PAPER, PURGATORY AND THE GREAT BEYOND" and it's to support the cause of saving paper from recycling limbo by turning them into post-consumer apparel and other merchandise. The dresses are then auctioned off and the proceeds go to help said cause. All of the designs were fantastic, although the last one was the most striking, which would be the half-naked chick strollin' out in paper pasties, a short paper miniskirt and a 17th cent.-inspired wig made out of paper rolls. Said model loved my kimono, by the way (yay!).
So the event started to wind down after the fashion show, so Anthony and I stuck around for a bit before heading home. We had a difficult time trying to get a taxi, but we got one eventually. Upon arrival, we headed to the Sheba Lounge for some dinner and drinks We got to stay past closing to chat with the owner's sister, Israel, who is a sweetheart. I managed to get a few hours of sleep before having to get up to do homework for my calligraphy class.
