Final Fantasy Dissidia

Okay, so basically I spent the entire day playing Final Fantasy Dissidia (yes, the japanese version and yes, the one that made me curse Seiji Fukuyama for a couple of hours). Man... I gotta say, that game is awesome. Even though I understand very little of the battle system (I still don't know how to dash - and this seems to be specially lame when it comes to Tidus' story), it resembles Kingdom Hearts, but it also have a couple of similarities with Super Smash Brothers. By what I got 'til now, you have either to get your oponent to get to HP 0 or force the Action percentage to zero. This may allow you to kill your oponent with a single blow (...as it has already been done to me (¬__¬)).
The controls are actually pretty simple: you'll only use circle and square. The circle button is used to blow regular attacks while the square button will allow you to unleash a special attack (and now that I think about it, Dissidia may have a battle system which is pretty simillar to Crisis Core. I can't say that for sure because it's been quite a long time since I last played Crisis Core, so I don't remember it quite well). R button plus Square allows you to enter a Special Mode, in which your Special Attacks get stronger.
About the Story Mode, which is basically what I played today, you control the Cosmos characters, which are the good guys. I believe you'll be able to unlock the bad guys as soon as you finish the game in the Story Mode.
Anyway, each character has a difficulty level (Cloud is the easiest and I believe Terra is the hardest one). Each Cosmos character has a corresponding Chaos antagonist. For an instance, Cloud's final boss is Sephiroth. Squall's final boss is Ultimecia (which I wasn't able to defeat (=__=)), Tidus'  final boss is Jecht and so on. This is actually one of the best parts of the game, even if this is not unexpected at all.
Also, during the fight against the final boss, the song that plays in the background is the same one that plays in the original game, meaning that in Squall's story the song played is The Extreme (good lord, I love that song so damn much), Cloud has the One-Winged Angel (argh, overused), Tidus has Otherwold (yipee) and so forth. Same thing for the worldmap song.

LIMIT BREAKS ARE SO COOL. They can be executed whenever you make a combo (that would be when you hit the opponent with a regular attack. As soon as an X appears in the middle of the screen, you press X and, right after that, you are drawn closer to the enemy. If you press Circle, you'll hit a regular attack. If you press X, you'll defend yourself. If you press Square... things might happen) and each character has its own. Squall has a Renzokuken (WHICH IS EXACTLY THE SAME AS FFVIII LKASJDKLMAKLEALKD), Cloud has... ehrm... that one he used against Sephiroth in Advent Children (but I also saw Climhazard), which is explicitly called "Limit Break" (Squall's is only Renzokuken - END OF HEART, ALSKDJKSLDMKALDMKLASD), Tidus has Overdrive, Zidane has Trance and Cecil has a crazy blow which apparently has no fixed direction and it is hard to control. (=__=)

Bitching about my favorite characters... well, the first one I chose was Squall. Final Fantasy VIII was my first one and I always loved Squall, even though I hate his stereotype nowadays. Too bad I chose a character with three stars of difficulty and still didn't master the controls yet, so I got pretty frustrated when I got to Ultimecia (YES, somehow I managed to GET there). Squall maybe be a well-balanced character, but his lack of long distance attacks is VERY annoying, specially because Ultimecia doesn't even let you get CLOSE to her. His regular attack does not cause much damage, so... I lost. (=__=)

Cloud is another character that I really loved and his story is quite easy (in fact, I guess his stage has only one star of dificulty). I would dare to say that he might be the best character among the Cosmos fighters. Still, most of his attacks are only mid-range. His specials draw him close to the opponent, so I wouldn't exactly recommend him to defeat Ultimecia, for an instance. But beating Sephiroth with Cloud was a piece of cake and it only took me... a regular attack and a Special Attack (not a sequence. I really mean ONE HIT OF EACH. TOTAL: 2 HITS. Sephiroth fans may cry now).

Tidus' story is so goddamn nostalgic. He is a great character in technical therms. He does have long distance attacks (which I didn't really learn how to use and, unfortunatelly, are easy to dodge) and his Special is very useful and easy to control (he has explicitly two limits. One of them can be used while running and the other one can be used while jumping). The great control of his Special is pretty much what allowed me to defeat Jecht, because hell, he is tough! It took me seven tries to defeat him and I had to waste his HP because I couldn't hit him using a chain of regular attacks. I used that "beautifully strategic method" to defeat him (...yes, I climbed the giant sword, waited for him to come and aimed my Special Attack as soon as he got closer and before he could use his own Special - which breaks your guard and pretty much means Instant Defeat (=__=)) and after some time, he was down.

Currently, I'm playing with Cecil. Cecil is SO cool, he can turn from Dark Knight to Paladin in the middle of the battle!!! His Speciall is terrible to control though (or maybe I'm just used to Tidus'). You have to hit the enemy head-on and if you miss, Cecil will fly from one side to the other, hitting the air.
*sigh*

I actually wanted to play with Terra right after finishing Tidus' story, but her scenario has five stars of difficulty and I couldn't even beat Squall's story (which has only three stars of dificulty). Kefka seems tough too.
Same thing with Zidane.

Aaaaand... that's it, I guess. I'll play some more before going to sleep.

...it's good to have that many options, actually. I still like my Playstation 2, I still play Nintendo DS whenever I want to play something more casual, my PSP runs PSP and PSOne games and I have for long-life games for Playstation 3. It feels strangely good to live like this. :]
