Bleh. I don't really know if I like lilac-flavored things. The taste is a bit too powdery and perfumey for me; like I should be using it as a sachet instead of drinking it as a tea. Or spraying it on myself; it's not unlike the body sprays I liked as a teenager. Glad I only bought a 1 oz. bag. Wasn't even $2, so no great loss ( Read more... )

Was it Simpson & Vail or Strand's lilac blend? S&V's I don't really like much; their black tea base is too light and the lilac too perfumey. It's a lot like you described, right down the powderiness.

maybe I will transfer it to a silky bag and use it as a sachet
Could also try using it as a tea rinse. I'm sure a lilac-scented tea would be nice.

S&V. I haven't yet ordered from Strand. A lilac-scented tea rinse might be nice though.

It really would be. Also I'm not surprised, since S&V's lilac tea tastes the way my deodorant smells. Their other florals are good, but the lilac's just way too perfumey.

Strand's has a better base, so it holds up against the lilac. It's more flowery-berry, not so much flowery perfume.

Hm. Maybe I'll try it the next time I order tea. Won't be for a while though, since my tea corner's pretty well-stocked, and Mom will kill me if I buy any more.

From what I've tasted, S&V's black base is really not good at standing up to strong florals. The light base works with their violet tea, but the lilac overwhelms it. Maybe I just don't like lilac, I dunno.

Their Strawberry Cupcake and Apple Cinnamon Coffeecake teas are obscenely good though.

It really isn't. As a rule for S&V teas, I use a little more than one teaspoon per cup. One and a half, usually. You get a more substantial cup of tea this way but I would not suggest doing this with the lilac if you drink it again, because HOLY SHIT FLOWERS.

Oh hell yes. Dessert teas are something they do very well.

I'm just going to make a rinse out of it. I tasted it again and decided it's not really something I'd like to drink. Ergo, brewing the rest into a tea rinse.

My hair will smell fabulous.
