I've been watching waaay too much Justice League x___x

Gunshots filled the air, as plumes of smoke spiraled towards the sky.

"This is Aviator618, we've got the files, but the enemy's found us, we're currently under fire!"

"What's the situation?"

"Not good, they've already captured two of us, Pristinia and Takerfell."

"Then what are you waiting for?! Get the hell out of there!"

"Negative, we're surrounded from all sides, we need backup!"

"Why the hell did you wait this long to ask?"

"Thought we could handle it on our own."

Maline banged her fist on the control center. "Erica you idiot! If you don't get out of there alive, the next time I see you I'm going to personally hand you your-"

"Sorry, what? I can't hear you over the enemy fire!"

Maline pinched the bridge of her nose, trying to calculate a course of action. "How long can you hold them off on your own?"

"Not sure, Mark and Cyrus are doing a good job, but I don't know how much more juice the Zutara X90 has left in it!"

"Estimated Kataangers surrounding you?"

"Oh, I say a good 30 and more still coming."

"Alright, I'm sending Star10 and Beepo to get you guys in the Kazu jet. Do your best to hold out until they arrive!"

"Gotcha, over and out."

Maline quickly issued the order to the said Zutarians before letting out a sigh.

"Erica again?"

Maline didn't even turn around. "Some of these rookies are so reckless! This was supposed to be a simple job, break into Kataang Headquarters, steal the files on the project they've been working on, and leave without getting caught! They couldn't do that?!"

Before the person could answer, a voice came over the communicator.

"This is Star10, we've got them!"

"Beepo here, they've got the files too, as an added bonus!"

Maline let out a sigh of relief, as the person she had been talking to before answered.

"Sara here, is Erica with you?"

"She is."

"Let her know that we'll be expecting an explanation once you guys get here, so she better think up something good."

They could here Erica groaning in the background just before the line was cleared.

-----

"It was an ambush! The Kataangers were ready for us, I swear!"

Maline's expression remained stony and impassive, waiting for her to go on.

"Just look at these files!" Erica held them out. "They're fake! All of them!"

Sara took the folder and flipped it open. Her brows knitted together as she read the information inside.

"She's right, it is a fake. The Kataangers knew we were coming."

Maline glanced at Sara before glancing back the rookie in front of her. "When did you realize it was a trap?"

"About 10 minutes into the mission."

"And you waited another fifteen minutes before calling for backup?!"

"I-"

"Two of our own were captured! Who knows what the Kataangers are going to do to them! But let me guess, you thought you could handle it, right?"

Erica crossed her arms, looking defiant. "Yes, I did. And...I was wrong. I'm sorry."

Maline felt like she was about to explode. "Sorry?! Is that all you have to say?! What if the Kataangers would have decided to dispose of all of you, then what? Would you still be saying sorry at your own funeral?!"

Sara laid a hand on Maline's shoulder. Her friend glanced at her, then back at Erica.

"You will head back to your room now and await my orders. Until then, no more missions, is that understood, Aviator618?"

"Yes," Erica replied. As she walked away she added quietly to herself, "your royal, stuck up, pain in the-"

"What was that you said?"

Erica cringed. "Nothing, oh great commander."

"Let her go," Sara said as she flipped through the fake files. "I'm sure she learned her lesson."

"I doubt it," Maline sighed as she rubbed her forehead. "This is exactly why I don't like sending her on missions, she's too confident in herself."

"That's not such a bad thing you know."

"It is when lives are at risk! Knowing when your beaten is just as important as knowing you can win. I wonder what they're teaching kids in school these days, because that seems to be slipping between the cracks of Important-Stuff-To-Know-When-You're-In-The-Real-World. And why are you still looking through that rubbish? If it's a fake, then it has no useful information inside."

"One man's trash is another man's treasure."

"Right. Have fun digging then."

"Whoa, one high-strung lady in the house. What happened, did someone accidentally set the Zu-zuts on fire again?"

"Shut up, Ryan, and get out of here. Now."

"Ignore her, Erica just got to her again," Sara replied, inspecting a page under the florescent light.

"Ah, the hot little chicka with the attitude, hm? I think she's kind of cute, what do you say?"

"I say you can go burn," Maline answered.

"Yeah, but I wasn't asking you," Ryan grinned, as he watched Maline get increasingly ticked off.

"I'd watch it if I were you," Sara warned. "We just lost two members to the Kataangians, and Erica was giving her a lot of attitude about it. Take her earlier advice and shut up."

"Sure, but are we on for tonight?"

Sara adjusted her glasses. "Ryan, the only time we'll ever be 'on' for anything is if Hell froze over and we somehow ended up on a mission together. Otherwise, you've got your dreams to keep you company."

"Oh, believe me, my dreams keep me plenty company."

Sara closed her eyes in irritation for a moment, before replacing the paper back in the manila folder, and tucking it under her arm.

"Maline, I'm going to be doing my 'digging' in my room, where it's quiet and there are no annoying wasps buzzing around."

With that, she left through the door, shutting it just a little too hard on her way out.

Ryan grinned as Maline rolled her eyes. "Why don't you just leave her alone?"

"Because she's cute when she gets all ticked off."

"Right. I think I'm going to get a coffee, keep an eye on things around here."

"Roger that."

Maline grabbed her jacket and keys. "Thanks. Want anything?"

"Nah, just watch out for any Kataangers, T6810."

Maline smiled for the first time that day. "Got it, JJ."
