work

Alright, so I got a job. It's a highpaying job too. Problem? I'm a traveling salesperson, actualy going into people's homes to show them our product.

It's actually not door-to-door sales, but rather, people have to make appointments, and THEN I go. The company's called Vector, and they're the only distributor for CutCo Cutlery store, selling uber high quality kitchen utencils, cutleries, and some fishing/hunting stuff. And I do mean UBER high quality. I went to the interview today, and during the second interview (she actually had all of us do a second interview the same day, and also gave us our answers) she demonstrated CutCo's products. My god, their scissors cut through a PENNY. It's really incredible actually. But despite it's highquality, because there is no middleman (CutCo does not do retail selling, only through Vector's appointment system, selling directly to the consumers) the prices are actually fairly low for such high quality stuff.

So yeah, basically advertisement is by word-of-mouth, and appointments are set up with the company. The Sales person (me) will then go to that customer's house, and do an one hour demonstration, hoping that they would buy the product as a result.

The pay is $16/appointment OR 10-30% of that week's sales. So if I don't do too well and didn't sell much, my pay is $16/app, but if I had a really good week, and my 10-30% (depending on my lvl) is higher than the amount of the base pay, then I get the higher amount. It's one or the other, but it's a win-win situation anyway. Hours are also flexible, it seems, and the pay is great.

Problem. I have to go to people's homes. My mom freaked out on me and I don't know what my dad's gonna say about this. I called the people to ask about safety stuff, and the lady said 99% of the people I'll be interacting are actually house wives (which make sense). Also, they do a prelim screening thing and make sure that all the appointments are with people over 35 years old, married, and owns a house. And also they've never had any problems, ever before (or so she said anyway). I was sort of worried about the safety stuff earlier too, but when I found out that they do the prelim screening, I'm not too worried about it anymore. I mean, seriously, if they own a house (in Cali, even a small house is expensive as hell, especially in my area) then I doubt they're gangsters. Married and over 35? And has a job? Yeah, I'm not too worried.

Also, I'll be able to stay in my area instead of going to where the main office is (which happens to be 15 miles away). I'll only have to go there for training (tomorrow to saturday). I'll be finding out the details then.

But yeah, I think they'll freak out anyway, my parents. I hope my dad says I can work though. it's really good pay, and the experience is gonna be worth more than even the pay. Later on, I can put that on my resume, and I'll be better off than a lot of other people.

Maybe I can get a cellphone out of this or something...
