Rest in Peace
Bravo Everhart
Age 13
The Family Dog
Bravo first came into my life in March of 1999. Me and my brother were on our way to the corner store to pick up some snacks so we could watch our new VHS of Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery. Halfway there we saw Bravo on the street, and we stopped. We had owned dogs our entire lives, and loved them, so we decided to help this lonely dog sitting on the sidewalk in the shade of a tree. He ran from us at first, looking before running across the street. But we cornered him at the school, and he just laid down, being too tired to go any further. My brother stayed with him while I went home and got a leash. He had a choke-collar on, but no tag. We took him home, and fed him, and made signs to put up all around. After about 2 weeks we had no call, and our parents said we could keep him. We already had a dog at the time, and my oldest brother decided on the name Bravo, since our other dog was the 'alpha' male.
Back then we guessed he was around 3 years old. Every day when I got home he and our other dog would jump on me and greet me. He already knew the basic tricks, how to sit and shake. I later taught him how to catch a Milk-bone off of his nose. He could always be counted on to bark at anyone coming up to our door. He often times didn't like the dog food, and would spill his bowl over in protest of it. He never bit anyone, and never crapped in the house, or chewed things up unless it was squeaky. He killed several rats for us in his younger days, and continued to hunt them even if he couldn't catch them anymore. We took care of him up until I moved to Oregon, when we apart for about 9 months, and he stayed with my parents. Then we brought him up here too, so we could be with him as long as possible. Up to the day he died, he seemed fine. And it was a shock to come out of my room and see my dog there, motionless.
I will miss him forever, and can barely type this without breaking down crying, which I have done several times tonight already. Rest in Peace Bravo.
