At 1:10 AM Sunday Jan 19, 2008 Cortana II opened her eyes for the first time an d looked around. Seeing what time it was she promptly rolled over and went back to sleep. I don't blame her I was tired too but I successfully constructed our new 'Server' Cortana II. The first Cortana was and AMD Athlon XP 2.0 GHz Processor with 2 GB of DDR 400 Ram and various a sundry of hard drives. The Primary one being an 300 GB IDE drive and a DVD Rom Drive. She had a DVD Burner hooked up via USB but that was just not doing it for me. Sure I liked the idea of a mobile burner but I never used it because I didn't want to reach over and unplug it.

I'll have some pictures up of the new system Just as soon as I get home and get to my camera. I have some nice little video cards installed and everything fit nice and snug So I got all the hardware installed and as this was the first Intel Core 2 Duo system I had ever built I was a little unsure of myself when it came to the new and varied cables that were required to hook up. The Motherboard should serve me well, as it has both IDE and SATA ports which was the only prerequisite for this machine. I had so many old drives of decent size that I didn't want to lose them. So I can theoretically have up to 8 devices in this machine. Currently I have 5. 4 Hard drives which I am happy to say were all detected and, no small miracle, hooked up correctly and in a fashion that allowed for the best fit.

Continuing my little post of several weeks ago.

It has been a busy week at my house. I have had several projects I have been working on. Mostly computer related.

In my personal world my mother went to the hospital back on Jan 23. She was complaining oh chest pains and shortness of breath. The scary part was that none of us knew that she was in the hospital until Thursday the 24 when I got a call from the Hospital to call them. See there are three of us that check on her from time to time during the day and well for some reason it just didn't register that there was something wrong because she wasn't there in the afternoon. So now we have a system in place to prevent this. Continuing on. My mother had somehow cracked a vertibrae in he back which was causing the shortness of breath and chest pains. She stayed for about 3 days and went home Saturday.

Tuesday.

Tuesday was a very busy day for me personally. We have this plan my brother and I to get internet put in at my mom's house. This way if we have to stay over for extended periods of time we can work from there. Now this got the ball rolling. If we have internet we are going to need a computer. So that was on my list of things to do Tuesday. I also had a Security camera to hang up, NetNanny to load the children to deal with and I was supposed to be fixing a friends computer that has been setting in my floor for quite some time. I just had to stop and make the time for all this. So the security camera went well, it was balls cold when we decided to do this, (isn't it always?) and let me tell you, trying to crimp Cat5 in a cold blowing wind is a feat I kid you not. So we get the camera mounted and it went relatively smooth.
Now after that I decided to build this computer for my mom's house. She won't use it but I know we will use the crap outta the internet.

So I spend the next couple of hours putting this machine together. I didn't have the softwre or anything to test it so that would have to wait until I got home.

So next I install NetNanny and get it configured like I want. Then I prepare for the onslaught that is about to occur as the little ones figure out just what they can and can't do. So far it has gone well. There was some initial resistance but we're fair parents so its not that bad. Plus my oldest will turn 10 this Saturday (feb 9) and that will be a very good birthday for him Even his brother is getting some stuff because we felt guilty. OH well

(UPDATAGE)!!
This is the third entry to this post. At some point it will be a monster post covering almost a month's worth of time.

Cortana-2 is working like a charm. Very efficient. I am currently working in our Ridgeway area library updating a computer. I figured I would try to get a little more on this post written before I have to reboot and finish the install. So things have settled back into a normal pattern for us around here. My mom is home and she is doing 'ok'. Her back hurts and the way her mind works is now it's the DR's fault. Of course the Dr didn't have anything to do with her back. Vice Versa she went to the DR because of her back. Oi Vey! At any rate we are still trying to get Internet in her home. And once that is done it will make extended stays at her place easier to deal with because we'll be able to stay connected to our respective families and careers. When I say "we" I mean my brother and I.

GAWD!!!! I am going to get this post done today.

I am currently in the Collinsville Library. Writing Documentation on updating software on the computers here, listening to the White Stripes and testing the Wireless connection. I am going to try and test the wireless connection at each branch and make sure it all works like it should.

One thing I noticed is that Skype doesn't work over the connection here. I guess thats good. But I find it kind of annoying. Of course I am in a Library. :) Well a changing Library. I hope one day I can set here and work on my computer with a nice hot cup of Coffee. :) All in good time.

Hey I think I am done with this post now!

OH yeah... one more thing.
Our new kitchen appliances came the other day. Namely our Coffee grinder which is super awesome and our Kitchen Aid Mixer. The other thing is that we move the fridge and then put in cabinets and a larger counter top. We also have a Knife holder coming and we got a nice set of knives for the kitchen.

I must say having a coffee grinder makes all the difference in the world between a good cup of coffee and a GREAT cup of coffee. :) I'm in love.

Ok bye for now.!
