Observations from the floor.

So I got off work and went upstairs to update my laptop a bit and to test the capabilities of our wireless router/service in our library. I have also been answering questions when patrons come and ask me. So far this is what I see. CybraryN which is the application that manages the users access to the internet. IE the queue and session/print controls. Well so far the program has worked as expected. It only gets a little freaky when there are a lot of people on the system and there are people in the queue. What happens is that the people in the queue bump of the oldest user session and people have learned to share I think. The problem occurs when a person who just sat down from waiting in the queue for 15 - 20 minutes gets booted off in 10 minutes. I don't know what causes this. I do know that I don't like the way this program is written. It uses very VERY basic VB databases. Text files no less. Now I am not knocking the use of that in a stand alone program but when you have several copies of a database all over the place? its makes for a nasty situation. I would like for a more centralized solution. Ok yeah yeah. CybraryN is a server based app. But more often then not what happens is that the remote server gets corrupted when you 'add' a new computer to the mix. Or hen you just re add a computer. It completely screws up especially the printing aspect of it. It is soo picky and sooo choosy I won't even begin to go into all the little quirks with this application. I found out today that the Adobe acrobat plugin for IE will cause the CybraryN print client to crash on the user. I just need to report this to the company and see if they have a fix for it. I don't think they have that many people working on the project because we still have questions from over 6 months ago that have not been answered. Well I could go on about the program but for what we paid for it, its doing ok. Still there was a level of quality that was expected and I for one don't think we have reached that level. So I think we will continue to point out the problems we find with the program.

Now on to other things. I really wanted to go swimming tonight but with this little update and the fact that the misses wants me home ontime, which isn't going to happen tonight, I think I can safely say I will remain in the doghouse. oh well. This update is taking forever and I wish it would hurry. I wanna go home. I mean hell its only 56 MB WTF? why does apple need such a large application to do what they want with this thing. I know i know the only big reason for upgrading to the new version is so every windows person can hook up thier freakin iturd and er phone.) don't get me wrong. I think its a wonderfully beautifully styled piece of equipment... however I have heard nothing else but this bee otch's name for the past 2 weeks on every freaking station, podcast, etc etc. And yeah its great. Now shut up about it or I won't ever pick one up. Your lucky enough I plan to get an Ipod. Buggering buggers. Ok and were breathing ... sigh.

Alright. Well on to the shoes! what were outta time? oh darn no shoes for you.
