Well the day finally arrived. My best friend Shawn was married. AWWW It was a lovely wedding. I was a (lousy) usher. Ok I'm being a bit hard on myself I think. Its what I get for not showing up at the rehearsal dinner. I completely missed it and for that I am really freaking sorry. Any rate the important parts went off without a hitch. Oh there will be pictures to be sure, I just didn't take any. :( No camera. I know there will be pictures because the grooms side is like the geek side and the other.. well not as geeky. :) But there should be several thousand pictures of the wedding and I will be sure to get some from people and save them.
Let me back up a bit and say that while I wasn't at the rehearsal or dinner and I missed one night in my room, which I plan to pay the responsible parties back for the room I did get here on time for things on Saturday. I left work, yeah I work Saturday, at around 9:30 am and headed for Lynchburg. And that was good I thought things got started at 2:00 p but the wedding didn't get started until 4PM. However after wandering the roads of Lynchburg for about an hour I found where I was supposed to go. All in all not bad. I pulled right in behind the groom and well we just went running from there. I was referred to as the "Elusive Brian" Well all in all I have been called a lot worse. This was supposed to be a great event for me and my wife as well but she hurt her back on Thursday before the wedding and was not able to attend :( I was bummed out. I had no one "special" to hang out. Talk about feeling like a lonely monkey. But I made up for it with silliness. And I am sure that there are some pictures that will be just damn funny. Like the ushers walking out hand in hand and dancing when we were all announced... lol that was soo.. spontaneous I loved it. The ceremony was great. Everything went of very well. There was this terrifying moment for the groom... See there was this pool. >:D and well it was so obvious what was going to happen...
So with some coaxing from the girls (please note the bride was not involved in this) The groomsmen and the ushers encircled the groom. One asked, "Hey Shawn, Can I hold your glass for a moment.?" At which point after the glass was exchanged we started to push the groom into the Pool. The LOOK ON HIS FACE!!! OMG It was freaking priceless. He was like "NOOOO!!!" and the bride was like "ARRGH" And we stopped, because we all valued our lives! :) And it wasn't that warm Saturday. And No one likes a wet groom before the last dance. We all did it for the expression that will be plastered in our minds for years to come. Those memories are like gold and I will treasure that startled frightened look on his face for years. (SIGH) I have to admit that at the end of the wedding I was a bit sad. I don't know exactly why. Except that maybe I was sorry to see that part of my friends life end and the new one begin. But I am happy none the less for him and his wife and I hope they make a good run of it. (Ahhhh) So after the wedding and the reception we went back to the hotel and we all got out of our monkey suits and turned them over to a single point of return so that they could be returned. They were really nice tuxes I thought. No cummerbund or anything like that. Just a bow tie and a vest. I have a picture of me taken by the Grooms' mother which I must get copies of. I looked rather dashing and I so don't dress up often. This is the first time I have worn a tux in like 14 years.. last time was senior prom.
So now that everything is over and I am drinking my second cup of coffee and working on this 2 liter of Diet Dr Pepper and trying to put my thoughts down before I lose the moment. I am reminded that I REALLY LIKE HIGH SPEED INTERNET! Oh man! I had forgotten what it was truly like to have a decent connection. We have SAT Internet at home. It is really good for the desperate but if you have the option of getting something more terrestrial I highly recommend it. The 1000 ms lag in the connection freaking sucks. I mean the net here is throttled back to 384 and that is plenty fast enough for web surfing and such. But not having to wait that 1000ms for a reaction is wonderful. Hopefully we will have decent internet in about 3 months. If nothing else holds up the progress.
Well its about time to head out. So I will take off and hit the road.
