Can someone please explain to me how a whole host of cough*self-righteous*cough mothers would be pro-choice and yet be ALLLL for banning the sale of formula or making it available only by perscription
( Read more... )
I believe a mother should breast feed to the best of her abilities. Formula by prescription is tempting as *some* people are too stupid to realize that scientific /artificial concoctions don't measure up in so many ways; however, it's not my place to tell anyone how to care their child... particularly since I have no experience of my own... yet.
I have a friend who fully intended to breast feed for some months; however, she is, in her own way, high strung and short of resting 24/7 to lactate (i.e. let her house go to hell and literally rest *all the time*) she simply didn't produce enough milk to support her child without supplementation... that and he had a habit of falling asleep while suckling and just chewing mommy *raw* instead of nursing.
Considering my mother breast-fed my brother incorrectly (for the love of yourself hire a lactation consultant if you don't have other resources) which caused an infection that produced scar tissue that didn't stop her from breast feeding me (and good god she's the only 60+ year old with remotely perky tits I know... surgery excluded)
Tangent lost and incoherent so make what sense of that you can 'cause yeah... that’s fucked up and hypocritical to be pro-choice but want legislation to force breastfeeding.
I guess you agree with me...you rambling drunk girl ;-)
Seriously though, breastfeeding is HARD even if you come well equiped. And the fact that so many hospitals are like: "here's the baby, now feed it..." no wonder so many women turn to formula. Banning formula is not the answer, just like not handing condoms out will not stop teenagers from having sex. new mothers need education support and resources before and after the birth and the message from doctors and society at large should be that formula is a last resort, and that breastfeeding is the norm and standard. additonally the formula companies need to be reigned in.
