Title: The Last Day
Author:
kahel16Pairing: KengoxKumiko; MikixTatsuya (side pairing)
Rating: T and Worksafe
Summary: They've realized how they feel about each other, but will they be able to keep things afloat?
Word count: 2080 (Haha, longer than I expected.)
A/N: Almost a year later, here's the third chapter. I didn't follow the original time line this time (but will still keep the same ending) since it was harder than I thought it would be (LOL). Anyways, I've written the VERY last part of the fic, and I'm nearing completion. I'm back in my Burimyu phase (which means rewatching DotBM again and again before I can DL the remaining myus) but my Suju-ness is still here. XD
It was nice writing the MikixTatsuya part. It'd be nice seeing them together--in a different setting. Not romantically, but even in a show or another play or something. (But I don't think that'll really happen though. Miki's too short for Tacchan. LOL).
Oh, I don't know how the rest of the cast really calls each other since they really don't call out each other's names. XD It was HARD writing Kumiko and Kengo. They don't appear in the backstage videos that much, but I do think they have this mischevous side--that's the hard part. I think Kengo was with Tuti or Nagayan when they tricked each other. XDDDDD Tacchan and Miki were pretty easy to write, considering Tacchan hogs the camera a lot. XDDDDD
If you do see a mistake, please do tell me! Thank you!
Enjoy reading ;)

“Kumiko!” Kengo said, waving at her. He was standing at the gate of her school, picking her up for the second Bankai Show rehearsal that afternoon. As soon as she saw Kengo, she said goodbye to her friends and ran to him.
“Kengo-san!”
“Let’s go?” He asked as he intertwined her fingers with his. She smiled at him and started to walk towards the train station.
“Ne, Kumi-chan?” He asked. “Are you free tonight?”
She looked up to him with interest. His eyes were looking straight ahead, seems like he doesn’t want to talk about the subject.
“Ah, I’ve got homework to do, sorry. But I’ll see if I can do it later when I’m not rehearsing.” Kumiko replied. “Why, what’s the matter?”
“You immediately knew it.” He laughed. “That’s one thing I like about you, Kumi-chan.” He squeezed her hand tighter and pressed a quick kiss on her forehead. “I just have to tell you something.”
“Important?”
He shrugged his shoulders. “Sorta.”
“Okay. We’ll see later. If I’m not finished, I’m free tomorrow though.”
“Alright.”
The remaining walk to the train station was silent. Kengo bought food for the two of them after getting off from the train, “Energy for what mischief Nagayan or Tuti might have for us.” Both of them ate happily, relishing the moment. She told him what happened today at school, and what possible things might happen later at rehearsal.
“Ne, Kengo-san.” She said. “Did you know about Miki-san having a crush on Tatsuya-san?”
“And did you know about Tatsuya liking Miki?”
“EH?” She exclaimed. “Well that’s one thing that will surprise Miki-san later. She never expected him to like her.”
“Like you, liking me.” He looked at her. “It’s the same situation. I never expected you to like me either. At first I though it was just some older-brother instinct when Miki told the story about the guy who likes you from school.” He smiled and looked at her. “I remember how much I drank that night.”
“You drank it all away? So that’s why you had such a huge headache the next morning.” Kumiko was surprised. I never expected him to feel this affected over a simple crush. “It was nothing! He was my classmate and he asked me out once but I rejected him. Something with his personality that I didn’t like.”
“Probably you already like me then.” He jokingly replied.
Kumiko shrugged then suddenly lightened up. “Maybe, maybe not.” She stood up from her seat and mentioned a circle around her head. “All I remember the next morning it was like you had this dark cloud surrounding you-like in anime! You were really groggy and can’t quite concentrate on what you’re doing.”
“You looked cute while acting that out.” He smiled, ruffling her hair earning a pout from Kumiko. “Yeah. I think Naoya and Eiki knew it from the start.” He paused, drinking from his soda then he continued. “That I liked you.” He smiled and looked at her.
Kumiko was surprised. She didn’t imagine that he liked her so early on. She smiled back and said, “That was a long time ago! That was during the first few Bankai practices we had.” Suspicious. He never told me that.
He laughed. “Yeah, it was a loooong time ago. And now, we don’t have that much time to waste or else we’re going to be late for the rehearsal.” He stood up and waited for Kumiko to follow suit.
“Wait, I’ll just finish my drink.”
Kengo looked at Kumiko sadly while she was finishing her soda. I know that it’s something that I shouldn’t give up, but I don’t want her to be sad.
They walked towards the rehearsal hall, hand in hand. Tatsuya, whose smile would definitely make someone else smile too, greeted them. Kumiko was smiling, but Kengo wasn’t.
And it wasn’t only Tatsuya who noticed. Kumiko too.
--
Kumiko was able to finish majority of her homework during the breaks. “I’ve done most of it, I’ll just do the rest tomorrow. I don’t have a class tomorrow.” She said.
“Kumiko.”
“It’s for the organization! Nothing big.”
“Yeah, and they all admire you for being Saito Kumiko, the youngest member of the Bleach Musical cast.”
“See, it’s no biggie. I can skip it.”
“Iie. First priority: your studies. Next priority: Burimyu. Next: whatever you wish. Plus we have a cast lunch or something in the morning.” Kengo told her, ticking off with his fingers. “It can wait, Kumi-chan.” He said, pushing her back into the dressing room. “Saa, get ready and I’ll walk you to the bus stop.”
“Alright, alright. Give me a minute.” She said surrendering. Then suddenly she opened the door and said, “Go to the men’s dressing room too. I’ll wait for you outside.”
”Or I’ll wait for you here?” He said with a one-armed shrug and a smirk.
”Either way.” She smiled and closed the door. She didn’t hear his footsteps so she shouted, “Kengo-san, go!” Then she heard a lot of sniggers and someone walking hurriedly along the hallway. “That worked out.” She said smugly to herself.
“Got your man on a tight leash?” the other Kumiko said with one eyebrow raised.
“Ah, Kumiko-san!” She said, suddenly flustered. “Well he’s a bit stubborn sometimes.” She said quickly.
“Aa~ you two are too cute.” Inoue Harumi said, standing up and walking to the other Saito Kumiko. “Both of you are. I wonder when Eiki will have someone.”
“Or when Miki-san will have someone.” Kumiko looked at her friend who was quickly fixing her things, hoping to escape the upcoming situation.
“Tacchan hasn’t made a move yet?” Harumi said. “Maa, Kumiko-san. We have to do some work here, ne?”
“Eh? Tatsuya? Me? With him? NO!” Miki quickly replied, her eyes wide. “I-I-I’ll never go out with someone like him.” She was standing with her hands on her hips and eyes determined but she was blushing.
“Aa~ Miki-san! You’re blushing!” Kumiko said. “Your crush on Tatsuya-san hasn’t gone away, right?”
“Crush?” Inoue and Saito Kumiko replied.
“OI!” Miki said. “I-I-I-” She stuttered. She was waving her hands as if saying, “It’s not true!”
“Yeah, she had a crush on Tatsuya-san since the first show.”
“Since the first show. Even Eiki wasn’t here yet.” Harumi looked away, chin rested on her right hand.
“A long time, ne?” Saito Kumiko replied.
Miki opened her mouth every they said something, but the three ladies were not letting her. They’re having too much fun. She thought.
“Maybe it has blossomed into love already!” Harumi replied with her eyes looking so dreamy and her hands together, like a fangirl’s hands would be while watching her favorite scene. “Poor Miki, hiding these feelings for so long.” She added.
“Saa, Harumi-san. Shall we start planning?”
“Let’s go!”
“Ittekimasu!” Both women said, grabbing their bags and heading out of the dressing room.
“Saa, I’ll change, Miki-san.” Kumiko replied grabbing her clothes and entered the changing area. “Who knows what will happen now, Miki-san?”
“I don’t have a crush on him!” She shouted back.
“Haha, try me Miki-san. I think those two will work with Tuti-san and Nagayan-san.”
“Can’t drop the -san in the end?”
“Habit. And I’m the youngest here, so I have to be respectful ne?” She said, stepping out of the curtained portion of the dressing room. “Let’s just see what happens tomorrow.” She evilly smiled at her friend whose face was starting to look like a tomato. “Ah! You do have a crush on him! You’re red all over, Miki-san.”
“I do not!”
“ ‘Who d’you think you’re kiddin’, he’s the earth and heaven to you. Try to keep it hidden, honey we can see it right through you. Probably can’t conceal it, we know how you’re feeling--’ ” She started singing as she was being pushed out of the room by Miki.
“Haha, you think you can crack me with a Disney song. Bye Kengo-san, Kumi-chan!” She said, closing the door.
“Nice english there, Kumi-chan.” He said, startled at the both of them. Kumiko was smirking and her eyes were sparkling. “Now you’re the one who looks like someone from an anime.” He poked her hair, which was still in a bun.
“You haven’t fixed you hair yet.” He said, poking it even more. “You just took off the cloth.”
“Well, got used to it” She said, grabbing his hand and started walking along the corridor. “Plus it’s nice.”
“What was that all about?” He asked as they passed the male’s dressing room. He stopped and was surprised at what he saw. Inoue Harumi and the other Saito Kumiko talking excitedly to Tuti, Nagayan, Eiki and Naoya. Suddenly, Tatsuya was walking towards them.
“Ah! Kengo, what’s with the surprised face?” He asked them. “Hi, Kumi-chan!” He poked the bun.
“You like the bun?”
“Everyone does.” He said walking into the dressing room. “OI! What are you talking about?” He said, excitedly looking around.
“Nothing, Tacchan.” Harumi said poking his dimples. “Saa, Kumi-san let’s go.” She said, winking at the others.
“Yeah, we should. Bye guys!”
“Kumiko?” Kengo asked, resting his right elbow on Kumiko’s shoulder.
“Yeah?” Kumiko looked up and saw a suspicious expression on his face.
“Does this have anything to do with you?”
“Me? Nope. Impossible.” She denied, but she was still smirking. “Saa, let’s go! Bye, Tatsuya-san!” She added as she dragged Kengo towards the exit.
“Bye!” Kengo shouted back, “Be careful, Tatsuya! It’s Tuti and Nagayan!”
“Eh?” Tatsuya replied. “Bye!” One of his eyebrows was raised, waving back at the two retreating figures. “Tuti and Nagayan?” He muttered to himself. Just then, Miki passed by. She was walking hurriedly and her cheeks were tainted pink.
“Ah, Miki!” Tatsuya said pretty loudly, capturing the attention of the remaining people inside the dressing room.
“Tatsuya!” Miki exclaimed. “You’re still not going home?”
“Ah Miki! You’re blushing!” Naoya pointed, and sniggered.
Miki put her hands to her cheeks and her eyes wide.
“We’re going to the bar later.” Eiki added. “Later someone will look like you, cheeks pink and acting like a girl.”
“We’re just waiting for Kengo to return.” Tatsuya continued. “OI!” He pointed accusingly at Eiki. “What was that all about?”
“What, I didn’t mention a name right? It maybe you, me, Tuti, Naoya, Shougo-san…” Eiki trailed off.
Then Tatsuya walked towards Miki and put his arms around her shoulders and said, “Do you have any idea what Kumiko-san, Kumi-chan, Harumi-san, Tuti and Nagayan are planning?”
“M-me? No! Try asking Kumi-chan though.” She said. Then she glanced at her watch and quickly added. “I have to go now, Tacchan. Bye guys!” She waved and walked quickly towards the exit.
“Aa~ mou. Kumi-chan already left!” Tatsuya had another cute tantrum. “Why isn’t anybody telling me?”
“Because you’re not supposed to.” Nagayan said. “Aww, and she called you Tacchan. The name Miki uses when she finds you cute.” Then he walked over to where Tatsuya was standing and looked at Miki’s retreating figure. “Maybe you should have a nickname for her or something. Mi-chan.”
“OI!” Tatsuya exclaimed. This time, it was him who was blushing. “Wh-What’s that supposed to mean? How’d you know that?”
“We’ve got the women on our side, Tacchan.” Tuti placed a hand on Tatsuya’s shoulder. “Go fix up so we can go.”
“What about Kengo?” He asked.
“He mailed us, he’ll just follow us to the bar.” Nagayan said, fixing his hair and clothes. “I’m set.”
Tatsuya sighed. “Alright.”
--
“Kumiko.” Kengo said with an arched eyebrow while they were waiting for a bus to stop by. “It’s a plan to get those two together, right?”
Kumiko smiled and giggled. “Yeah. Kumiko-san and Harumi-san were excited when they found it out. Miki was blushing all the way, and she got redder by the minute. It was fun to watch.”
“You little sadist.” He said, kissing her cheek and poking her bun once more. “Ah! There’s a bus.” He said. “Tomorrow you go straight to the café, alright? Take care!”
She pecked him on the lips and said, “Okay. Bye Kengo-san, take care! Oh! And don’t drink too much.” She boarded the bus and waved at Kengo who was still standing at the waiting shed as the bus accelerated.
He sighed. “I guess I better get going.” He walked towards the bar they’ll be drinking with his hands on his pockets and head slightly bowed down.
I don’t ever want to see tears replace that smile.
